Has anyone suffered with the above, I stopped taking Cilest in June and by the end of Aug I noticed my hair was shedding much more and now my hair is noticably thinner and my fringe sparse. Dermatologist said she hadn't heard of pill causing this but every search engine i have looked at said stopping the pill could cause this. Waiting on blood test results but ferrotin was a little low so taking 2 iron tabs along with skin hair and nail supplement. Told hair should regrow but when!!!! getting me down.

I have this it happened 4 mths after the birth of dd2. She is 9 now & it's still happening. I have read that stopping the pill particularly the Dianette or Yasmin can cause this as they have a blocking affect on the male hormone Androgen. I went on both pills to counteract the androgen but had to stop due to side effects & I suffer with depression. I had iron injections as my iron was low, took supplements but nothing has made any difference.

I saw a dermatologist & had scalp biopsies & blood tests done. He then diagnosed Androgenic Alopecia. I find my hair gets greasier quicker too. I tried taking Spironolactone ,Cyproterone & Microgynon 20 but just had bad side effects.

There is something called Nourkrin that you could try but I can't get it here in Australia. Think it's expensive though.

Hi, I have telogen effluvium but not due to pill due to going on a diet earlier this year. My hair has been shedding non stop for 4 months now and it's very distressing. I have done so much reading about it and yes there is a lot of info re, stopping the pill and hair loss. Are you still losing a lot a day and can you see any regrowth?

airth · 10/12/2012 19:30

Hi I'm 4 months into it as well and I cant see regrowth yet apart from a few fine hairs under my fringe (or whats left of it) Still shedding, it is very distressing. How about you an you see regrowth? Sometimes when you read others stories you wish you hadn't.
Dermatologist said 6 months

Sorry to hear that. I can totally empathise. I do have some regrowth however it is not really getting much of a chance as I am still having so much shedding which includes some of the regrowth - so frustrating!

Heres hoping we stop shedding soon, it does affect your confidence. I even cancelled my xmas night out because of it. If your like me you cant help checking to see if you get loose hairs everytime you touch your hair. Fingers crossed.

Airth it sounds like I am exactly like you! Yes to checking loose hairs constantly. Washing hair is a major stressful operation, I haven't properly brushed mine in ages as it just pulls them all out, and it just looks so rubbish at the moment! I have also opted out of my work Xmas do because of it. Happy to chat about it, PM me if you want to x

I had scary hair loss once I stopped taking the pill. It got to its worst after about 4/5 months and then gradually stopped. I also noticed that it was getting really oily, which it wasn't usually.

I have a great hairdresser who convinced me not to wash it every day and made me feel okay about the whole thing. One year on my hair is back to normal and not shedding at all-but I do have lots of funny short bits all over the place that have grown back!

Oh, I also used my daughter's tangle teaser so that I didn't pull loads more out - not sure if it helped though.

Try not to worry, you'll be back to normal soonx

Hi Medal I will PM you. Nice to have someone to chat with feeling the same.

Inkymalinky thank you so much post has really helped, my hair has also gone greasy, and the finer your hair the more you notice it. the pill has a lot to answer for!!!! I hope i will be as lucky as you and return to normal xx

Hi all,.. so I came across this old post about post pill haor loss. Given this was some time ago, I was hopeing that there was an update. @airth, did you haor recover or continue to get worse? Mine is so bad I have started looking at wigs online :(

princessTiasmum · 20/10/2020 16:13

Boofy Hope you don't mind me adding my bit about hair loss,
I am much older than you i think ,but had the same problem lost hair in patches about 2 years ago, no idea why,Dermatologist says it's stress related, and would grow nack within 6 months,it didn't and 2 years later having tried every vitamin, Biotin very good for hair growth, as long as you have some, but done no good for hair loss, every shampoo going i think,
I have now resorted to Regaine, and wondering if my HRT caused it, so stopping that now,it is still hormones isn't it
I read recently that liquorice juice is good for hairloss, might give it a try, also rosemary oil, meant to try it it,and got some but never did
I hope you find a cure

Boofy82 · 22/10/2020 11:02

Thnaks for sharing your experience princessTiasmum. What I really want, is to hear 'yeah - of course it will get better, it always does' but I know in reality that isnt the case. I have always had very fine hair, and after the recent shedding, my head looks like a baby - very fine, sparse and even though I got it cut into a short crop back in June, the hair I do have seems to be be growing and I have short bits. It's not looking positive is it :(

Boofy82 · 22/10/2020 11:04

that last bit waseant to say 'the hair I do have seems NOT to be growing'.
