Can anyone recommend a particular brand of good quality make up brushes? Mine are looking very tired!

Mac ones are great, I've had mine for years and years, and sephora own brand are pretty good and slightly cheaper, depending on your budget.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 08/12/2012 14:09

Mac are really good and last forever. I was also given some Jemma Kidd ones that are nice (eye ones)

squoosh · 08/12/2012 14:38

Mac are great.

A cheaper alternative are Eco Tools, really good but at a much lower price.

Boozeandadietjinglebell · 08/12/2012 14:42

Mac are really good, but the one I use most is a Laura Mercier smudge brush for eyes. Good time of year to buy higher end brushes as they often do sets that work out a lot cheaper.

kiwigirl42 · 08/12/2012 14:54

I got some ecotool brushes off ebay from China. Took a few wks to arrive but they were about 25% cheaper and are great

garlicbaubles · 08/12/2012 16:09

I've not been able to buy new brushes for donkey's years. Most of them are shedding like a cat in Spring ... but the Mac ones are still perfect.

MooMinCow · 08/12/2012 16:21

Real techniques brushes by Sam Chapman. Synthetic bristles so don't shed and can be used with cream/gel or powder products. You can find them in Boots

HollyBollyBooBoo · 08/12/2012 18:51

Chanel brushes are gorgeous.

Clumsasaurus · 08/12/2012 19:00

Tom Ford brushed are incredible

StatisticallyChallenged · 08/12/2012 19:15

I would second the real techniques brushes. The expert face brush gives an amazing finish to foundation, the fine eyeliner brush is great for gel liner and i love the blusher brush.

chipstick10 · 08/12/2012 19:21

Mac everytime for me.

EllieorOllie · 08/12/2012 19:45

I've got a body shop foundation brush, an eco tools powder brush, a Barbara Daly blusher brush and a benefit eyeshadow brush and they're all pretty good IMO. The eco tools one is probably my least favourite, but that's not really a damning criticism!

ohfunnyface · 08/12/2012 19:47

I love my mac brushes!

AntoinetteCosway · 08/12/2012 21:12

Real Techniques are fabulous and a hell of a lot cheaper than many other brands. Seriously good quality.

squoosh · 08/12/2012 21:49

I've never heard of Real Techniques, I must investigate.

milti · 08/12/2012 22:03

Thank you all, some great ideas there. I will have a look at the Mac ones first.

I have always bought mac til I started watching pixiwoo on YouTube. Have since bought the real techniques ones and now own all of them. Rarely use a mac brush other than the 217 now. Often on 3 for 2 at boots or weirdly on ocado!!

AnnOminous · 08/12/2012 23:07

Crown brushes are excellent quality. Brilliant range and a price to suit all budgets.

MooMinCow · 09/12/2012 10:44

Squoosh the RT are the dogs bollocks Grin of brushes. Amazing value, really soft and wash (and dry) super quick. The stippling brush is fantastic for liquid foundation and because they are synthetic they don't absorb and waste product. I prefer them to my MAC ones now and will probably buy them all!

ElectricMonk · 09/12/2012 11:09

I agree with the posters who've recommended Real Techniques - they're fantastic and ridiculously good value. I have 2 of the "expert face brush", 2 powder brushes, 1 blush and 1 stippling brush - they're all fantastic and get a lot of use. The "expert face brush" is the best for most foundations, IMO - its rounded top means that it gives good coverage that's never streaky. The stippling brush is lovely for finishing, and it's also really good for applying heavy coverage foundations like Estee Lauder Double Wear so it looks natural. The powder brushes are huge, really soft and generally lovely too. I'm not as impressed with the blush brush (it's a bit too pointed for me, which makes it hard to get the blush to look symmetrical, but clearly other posters like it.

ElectricMonk · 09/12/2012 11:09

Oops, there was definitely supposed to be a closed bracket in there somewhere...

LDNmummy · 09/12/2012 11:32

Real Technique's all the way. They are amazing brushes and I have almost all of them.

They do not shed, they are brilliantly soft and they are durable.

Using them is a breeze and makes applying your make-up so much simpler and easier.

The price isn't something to be sniffed at either.

valiumredhead · 09/12/2012 12:06

MAC are good - get them from ebay

The Body Shop are very good quality too and last ages.
