I have some blemishes and hyperpigmentation on my legs, what make up if any would cover this? Thank you.

Dermablend should work, it covers tattoos, scars, birth marks etc - you can get it on prescription sometimes although sounds as though what you have is just something you might like to cover from time to time rather than something really affecting your daily life.

Alternatively, you might get nice results with an airbrush (which will also be quicker than applying Dermablend products). It takes some practice though - I'm not proficient with mine yet. Dinair do a paramedical range that is designed to cover tattoos etc - check out the videos on Youtube with demos. I went on a makeup course a while ago and the teacher showed us how to cover tattoos with 'traditional' cover up makeup but said she herself would normally use an airbrush for this type of work as it's quicker.

If the markings are quite light, MAC Face & Body foundation is waterproof and designed for use all over the body, not just the face.

Thank you emsyi that has been helpful. I have heard of dermablend, which I will look into. The airbrush sounds nice, but probably something that takes time and technique. My pigmentation is not light, so mac body foundation wouldn't be any good, would the airbrush be in any good for dark pigmentation? also it sounds silly but are there any creams that give an airbrush effect?

Vichy own the brand name of Dermablend now - it's Vichy Dermablend if you google it.

Yes, you can get good coverage with an airbrush for dark pigmentation although you may need to use a colour to neutralise the pigmentation, then use the skin toned one over the top. The teacher showed us how to use a red based cover cream to counteract the blue of a tattoo, then covered it and blended it with a skin tone. You can do the same with anything that you want to cover up, just the colour you need to neutralise it first will depend on the colour of what you're covering - and that is where my knowledge runs out, I'm afraid! I'm planning to go on an airbrushing course next year so hopefully will find out more then!!!

I have always found that you can get a very fine almost airbrushed finish with a stippling brush - I've got the one from makeupgeek here and it's brill. I have to say though that I've only used it with 'standard' makeup and never with a cover up type product - I can't see that it wouldn't work though, and you can always use it for your face if it doesn't work for your legs. It's lovely for either liquid/creme foundation or for powder.

Thank you emsyi your info has been great. I have just googled vichy dermablend, so glad I can buy it online, because I think it's an american brand. I am also looking at the dermacolor.

Yes, the Dermacolor mini palettes are great - you use hardly any so I wouldn't bother with a full size single colour unless you find you use one shade a lot, just get a mini palette with a variety of colours that are suitable for you - some of them have corrective colours like the red for tattoos, as you will see [http://www.extrememakeup.co.uk/epages/es117859.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/es117859_shop/Products/DC71006/SubProducts/%22DC71006-Choose%20Type%22 here]]. You will need to use a concealer brush to apply it and then powder the top to seal it, but it's easy to use.

I really am too addicted to make-up... Also have a bit of an interest in camouflage as I am a long time acne sufferer. It's mostly under control now, but in the past it's been horrendous so I've looked into every option!

I also have a tattoo that I want to cover up for a meeting, but my main problem is the pigmentation. Thans emysi.

countryrose · 08/12/2012 08:43

Thanks clum I am based in the west midlands. I might buy the vichy online, it's just finding the right colour.

You can buy sample kits of the dermablend with I think 6 colours in - they're not expensive either. I've never used this website so you might want to do a bit of searching first, but here it is: www.expresschemist.co.uk/vichy_dermablend_starter_kit.html

countryrose · 08/12/2012 11:10

Thanks emysi that is great.xx

emysi you wouldn't by any chance know what colour I should go for? I am thinking of buying the leg and body cover, I have olive skin, should buy two colours and mix them?

OP posts:
emsyj · 08/12/2012 11:27

I don't know sorry, I've never used the Dermablend myself - only the Dermacolor concealers. You can mix colours though I think, if you find you need to.

countryrose · 08/12/2012 11:31

Thanks emysi, you have great help.x
