easing myself into statement necklaces

never thought I'd write such a fashion phrase (!) anyway my current new-job uniform (thanks to S&B Thanks) ) is blazer, good skinny jeans/cords, slouchy t-shirt (tucked in) or blazer plus Ce Me London dresses.
I only have one necklace I wear regularly which is an inherited tiny cross and some cheap and outdated costume stuff.
I am looking at the chunky stella dot short necklaces which are really nice.

But I would also like something slightly more delicate that I can layer or wear long. I tracked down the tiffany diamonds by the yard necklaces which are too expensive for me, but they could look good over a plan t-shirt or dress?

I like the very long ones as I could wear them loose or shorter and layered.
There are various cheaper silver and CZ version around from quite reputable stores (as this is just a work thing and I don't want to be worrying about the necklace's wellbeing) and I would choose something that looked a bit like this: www.tiffany.co.uk/Shopping/Item.aspx?fromGrid=1&sku=22231804&mcat=&cid=297647&search_params=s+5-p+1-c+297647-r+201323340+201432141-x+-n+6-ri+-ni+0-t+
would it look good peeking out from underneath blazer? I like the idea of a little bit of subtle sparkle. Or would it look dated?

I think it'd look wussy and as if you didn't know whether to wear jewellery or not. I wouldn't call those strings 'statements' at all. You seem to be dressing in clean-cut, strong lines so your jewellery should either be neat or bold. You can't dangle strings over your artfully-ruched dresses, it'll look like a snail trail!

If the stelladot stuff's too bold for you, how about a collar-length string of oversized pearls? For subtle sparkle, stick to rings and earrings.

But don't listen to me. An S&B grown-up should be along in a minute Xmas Wink

I think it's pretty, but those kind of chains do look better if layered up. As garlic says, it's not really statement, it's still quite discreet.

I think some of the "delicate" selection of S&D look bigger than they are IRL so that you can get an idea of how they're structured. These are both really delicate, and look great with a shorter one layered p:

Butler & Wilson? Like this or this?

garlicbaubles · 07/12/2012 17:57

That clover one's nice, Carrie :)

I really like the clover necklace too carrie74!

I was wondering whether I could use the diamonds by the yard necklace wound round three times so that it was a bit more of a statement in a shirt with top buttons open or a lowish cut t-shirt? But agree about the potential snail trail problem garlicbaubles!

I need to work out how to layer necklaces successfully before getting a DBTY style necklace I think.

Really like a lot of the stella dot stuff. The butler and wilson is a bit bold for me I think!

Just to say that I have finally committed to the clover necklace and shall be wearing it as soon as it arrives ...

Oh, well done! Envious.

carrie74 · 10/12/2012 21:01

Ooh, well done! Hope you like it!

I shall report back. There is a strong risk that it will go the way of lots of my new stuff and remain unworn and "saved for best" - but that's a whole other thread and therapy session!!
