Which is the best translucent powder please?

Am running out of my Chanel pressed translucent powder. I always used it with a brush (rather than the sponge) to set my make-up and control shine.

Now I'm thinking of trying something else. I want it to set my concealer, help manage shine, and look invisible please. I want it to go on very lightly with a brush and it needs to be translucent as I am pale and just can't do face powder the colour of tan tights. Don't mind splashing out on a really good product.

Thank you!

I used to use the Bobbi Brown yellow loose powder.

But have a vague memory of something called Corn Silk or something like that. It just popped into my head when I read loose powder. Wonder if they still make it?

Chantecaille

I use a benefit one, flawless something :/ it comes with a sponge or brush

Thanks everyone!

Is the Chantecaille powder pressed or loose Perry (love your name by the way!)

I really like Mac's Blot Powder - I don't think it's translucent, but it's invisible, mattifying and doesn't cake if you keep adding it throughout the day. Beware though, the 'light' is really, really light - I'm incredibly pale but I still need the medium.

LittlePandaBear · 05/12/2012 11:43

I use the Clinique loose powder, they have different shades but I'm pale and use transparency neautral which is invisible on me.

Barbara Daly's range from Tesco does good powder. Corn Silk isn't that great to be honest, you can get it in Boots still though.

If you're looking for loose power ELF Studio HD Powder is fantastic and cheap as chips.

Thanks everyone. Like the sound of the Mac and Clinique ones. Might pop into Boots on my day off.

Rimmel. Seriously.

All the make up counter girls wore it when I worked as one for chanel and then clinique. It's amazing. And dirt cheap.

Fuckitthatlldo · 05/12/2012 14:11

Is that their loose powder Fairylea?

Nope the pressed stay matte one. Comes in translucent. You can apply with a brush if you want to or my personal preference is a velour powder puff from boots (come in a pack of 2). It's brilliant stuff.

Clarins translucent loose powder is really quite nice (I'm v. pale too). I've bought it more than any other powder since my Chanel powder was discontinued.

TheHoHoHonlyWayisGerard · 05/12/2012 17:57

I also like Clarins, the pressed one though. I was gutted when it ran out, may have to reinvest. I am also pale. Deathly so Wink

ELF Studio HD Powder is really good - it takes shine away but skin still looks dewy

one of the reviews on MakeUpAlley says 'By applying e.l.f.'s studio High Definition powder first (before mineral foundation), it minimizes the look of pores and fine lines and holds mineral foundation beautifully'

Oinkypig · 05/12/2012 20:46

I'll second rimmel, I've tried loads of translucent powders as I am also very pale and I always go back to the rimmel one. It's just a bonus it's so cheap.

ElectricMonk · 06/12/2012 10:41

I used to like Rimmel but then realised it was clogging my pores and causing spots. I now use No7 Translucent Creme Pressed Powder in Translucent - no idea why it has the word Creme in the name because it's just normal, but it's very good for mattifying and setting makeup without changing the colour of your foundation at all. I apply twice per day at most, usually only need to use it once per day. It's not perfumed and is apparently "hypoallergenic", which does seem to be a bonus as I haven't had any spots or clogged pores since starting to use it 5 months ago.

Is loose powder very fiddly and messy? I've got used to applying pressed powder with a brush when I do my make up in the morning, and then taking oil blotting sheets out in my handbag to manage any shine during the day. I can't imagine you can use loose powder for day time touch ups?
