Blonde to light brown...

I've had blonde hair all my life, with highlights done at a hairdresser for the last ten years. A few weeks ago I had a bad experience with colour - I was left with orangey tones in my hair and it looked awful Angry I went back and they did what they could but it still wasn't right. I then spent a fortune at a different hairdresser to get it sorted. While it's now much better, it turned out lighter than usual and already my mousy roots are showing. Before, I could go 12 weeks in between trips to the hairdresser but somehow this time it's all changed. I cannot go back to another hairdresser (to be honest I've been put right off them) - can anyone recommend a really good home colouring solution? I've never home coloured in my life (apart from sun-in as a teenager Grin) but I just want to go back to the goldeny brown/ dark blonde I was before.
Please help!!!

One more try...anyone?? Roots even worse now. Think I'll go and get a t-section but not sure of that's causing more problems in the long run...

lol @ uses. sound proper Devon there.

Dark blonde colours are light brown in my experience,so any should do trick.
I like L Oreal Preference, but Nice and Easy are also good.
They do a caramelly colour that may suit?
If your hair has been bleached though don't go too ashy as it will turn khaki.
I say this from experience Blush

I swear by Nice and Easy. Been using it for years, and DD uses it too now.

Replis - thank you Xmas Grin

PirateinaPearTree I thought the 'uses' was your pirate-speak!

Thank you all. I will investigate Nice and Easy. Does it leave a solid block of colour, though, or tones?

ooh i could start doing that. talking like a pirate.

yes be careful of ashy colours, you will end up green. try and go for some sort of browny with slight warm red in to counteract the blond/light in your hair.

GeorginaWorsley · 13/12/2012 22:05

Nice and Easy claims to leave tones on the box.
I think you will be ok aslong as not too dark and not too ashy!

I had blonde highlights for ages. My hairdresser has just put me through some low lights and its all mixed in ..I love it

HelenofSparta · 14/12/2012 19:53

Interesting as after 16 years of highlights, am contemplating going back to my roots! Was a dirty blond/mousy brown, but with no sun getting to it, am sure my roots are darker than my hair used to be (much darker than my eyebrows). Was wondering whether to dye over the top, but too scared! Would be interested to hear how you got on OP...?

TheElfOnThePanopticon · 14/12/2012 20:23

I use l'Oreal Preference 7.3 which is a dark caramelly blonde which is close enough to my natural colour that the roots barely show but warms up my natural dull mouse very nicely. It is more natural looking than most of the highlights I've had (apart from the ones done by my favourite hairdresser who I can no longer afford).

HelenofSparta · 14/12/2012 21:47

Elf - do you do your whole head each Time or just touch up roots?

TheElfOnThePanopticon · 15/12/2012 10:46

The colour fades with time, so I do my whole head every 2 months or so.

Mewsical · 16/12/2012 20:33

Is that Florida honey blonde - Elf?
