Please help me with my big red face!

QuickQuickSloe · 01/12/2012 22:52

I am a blusher. And also a flusher.

I am getting really fed up of having this big red face and can't find any make up to help cover it.

I have tried yellow toned make up like Benefit's your bluffing, cooling primers including YSL's top secret or just thick foundation but nothing works. The blush shines through all of it, and most of things I have tried give me the pallor of a corpse when I am not bright red.

Does anyone know of any wonder product for this? Or am I doomed to avoid ever being slightly warm or remotely self conscious forever?

Thanks and Blush Xmas Blush Blush

Have you been to your GP to investigate roseacia (sp?)?

Apparently, a long-term course of low strength antibiotics can do wonders.

SundaeGirl · 01/12/2012 22:58

QQS - are you me?

God, it's a nightmare. Being red-faced is just so unpolished. Alcohol sets me off too so all pictures of me on nights out have me scarlet.

I find of I've had lots of water to drink I'm less susceptible

QuickQuickSloe · 01/12/2012 23:01

I haven't BOF, but a friend suggested the same thing yesterday. It would be brilliant if it was something treatable, I am getting so self conscious.

Maybe SundaeGirl!

Alcohol really sets me off too. It's always a bit of shock to see photos of nights out.

Clarins redness solutions cream - I only use it where I get redness (nose and cheeks) and it lasts for ages. Not perfect but much better...

QuickQuickSloe · 02/12/2012 07:02

Thanks Wifeofdoom, I am going to Debenhams later so I will ask them for a sample Smile

You need Bare Minerals Bisque concealer - amazing fantastic stuff!

LornaEds · 02/12/2012 13:26

I second the Bare Minerals make up. I have rosacea, used to flush a lot when younger, now just have a permanent red nose, and my chin and cheeks can flare up too. Have tried several treatments recommended by my GP, none of which have helped at all (they do help some though, different folk respond to different treatments, a course of antibiotics can clear it up for months but did nothing for me). Have also spent a fortune over the years on anti-redness creams and potions, again with little effect.
At the start of this year I had a facial and the make up artist used Bare Minerals makeup - I couldn't believe the difference. Covered the redness well, without looking caked on, very natural looking. I wouldn't use anything else now.
Also, be very careful with cleansers etc. as they can make the skin much redder. I tend to stick to a cream cleanser made specifically for sensitive skin, although the Bare Minerals wash off cleanser is good too (should be at £18 a bottle though!).
Food wise, spicy food and alcohol are common triggers, as are changes in temperature. I often have a flare up at the start of winter when it gets colder and the heating goes on.

valiumredhead · 02/12/2012 13:29

I recommend the aloe range from The Body Shop - very gentle and great fro sensitive/rosacea skin.

Avene Antirougeurs fort is a real miracle.
Easily available in Boots as well.

QuickQuickSloe · 02/12/2012 16:26

Brilliant, thanks everyone. I am leaving DS and DH to their own devices next Saturday and will try all of these, then put them on my Christmas list Smile

I had Rosacea, and the doc put me on a low-dose of some antibiotic. It seemed to go away after a year or two.

Was embarrassing because people used to think I was angry/blushing/been drinking (none of them true)

zanz1bar · 02/12/2012 18:42

I had laser treatment and it helped for a while, but slowly all the broken viens and flushing came back.
cant stand green tinted creams that make you look like a corpse.

I can recommend bare minerals make up, it covers well and doesnt irritate.

Stop using stuff like liz earle and hot wash cleansers they really agrivate the redness. Dermalogica ultra calming range esp the barrier repair and cleanser and Eurecin anti redness night cream work well for me.

Red wine is my biggest trigger, not a bottle just a few sips and i go beetroot. Everyone thinks your pissed, oh if only!
I can feel it tingle and sting when a flush comes on and have resorted tocold wet flannels on the face at times as it really can be painful sometimes.

If you find the solution your fortune is made.

ohmeohmy · 02/12/2012 19:21

Aromatherapist told me sea buckthorn oil good for rosacea but it has a strong colour itself so would only be used at night

QuickQuickSleigh · 03/12/2012 14:42

I had a bare minerals makeover at lunchtime! My face looks flawless Smile

It's definitely going on my Christmas list, as it addresses the redness, but I think I will try all the creams too with the aim of not wearing make up everyday.

Thanks style and beauty ladies!

valiumredhead · 03/12/2012 15:36

Oh excellent :)

Quite often I used the Bisque without foundation as it cover the red so well.

you can buy the foundation for a tenner on ebay, I always get it there now and the Bisque from FeelUnique

As someone whose skin changes through the year I tend to use Lily Lolo in the summer when my skin is more supple and moisturised and Estée Lauder double wear the rest of the time - it can be applied lightly and covers redness and helps my skin looks hydrated without looking cakey.

If you have normal skin then I'd go for Lily Lolo all year round.

This two step has worked brilliantly for me:

First:
Clinique redness makeup base
(It is a sheer green)

Second:
Clinique redness foundation
(The best I've found - I used to use bare minerals but it didn't fully cover my red and I felt I was always a slightly funny colour with it!)
