what do I wear please - I need to look smart.

my game plan is one of my work suits - it is grey and does not look OTT. (Skirt and jacket) Or would a dress be better? Bearing in mind I do not actually have a dress so may need to make a quick Saturday pm shopping trip....

I would definitely say no to the suit. A dress or skirt or I'd wear skinnies with a glam top - sparkly knitwear everywhere at the moment.

BrandyAlexander · 01/12/2012 12:04

I would wear a knitted dress with knee high boots. Definitely not a suit!

careergirl · 01/12/2012 12:12

Ah. Thought not. Shopping trip then.

Yes I agree, not a suit - too formal and officey! A knitted dress with knee-high boots sounds lovelySmile

careergirl · 01/12/2012 12:18

seen a few pieces online I like. I'll go and have a trying on session. trouble is my wardrobe is - suits during week, fleece and jeans at weekend so you can see my problem not fashion inclined at all!!

Well don't go spending loads on stuff you won't wear much again.

What shape/size are you?

What do you wear if you go out for dinner/drinks normally? Do you have a nice pair of trousers/skinnies in velvet/cord that you could just get a top to go with.

I'd go for ankle boots over knee-high boots personally as they just feel a bit more now.

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/12/2012 12:24

nice velvet skinnies and would work well with a silk shirt or glam top/jumper.

careergirl · 01/12/2012 13:07

I don't mind spending a bit as I've got a couple of things coming up - going out for Christmas day lunch for example, dress down days at work and so forth. And I do need to be a bit more adventurous with the wardrobe!
I went out for dinner last week and wore the skirt part of a suit with an eveningy type top. I really need to get away from the suit thing!!!

Jigsaw have got a fair bit of dressier day stuff in - how old are you though? Are you more Hobbs age or I'm guessing quite a bit younger.

Reiss or Comptoir des Cotonniers worth a look too.

GlitKnit · 01/12/2012 13:22

FLEECE?
Lady you am intervention. How would a suit be suitable for a family meal?!!

careergirl · 01/12/2012 13:29

ok, admit I'm not up in the fashion stakes and didn't really think it would be suitable which is why I asked. That said I do know the look I need. And nothing wrong with a fleece sat in one now as it goes (albeit at home)

Bonsoir · 01/12/2012 13:30

Don't wear a work suit. MrsCampbellBlack makes good suggestions.

GlitKnit · 01/12/2012 14:06

NO TO FLEECE unless watching sport or walking

GlitKnit · 01/12/2012 14:07

agreeon jigsaw or similar

take a look at their look book on their website

polyhymnia · 01/12/2012 14:10

I think you are on right track now. Either a dress or shinnied perhaps velvet with pretty/ stylish top.

Graceparkhill · 01/12/2012 15:17

Mrs CB- I have sent you a pm ( I think ) . No idea if the blooming thing worked.
Fingers crossed.
Grace

MrsCampbellBlack · 01/12/2012 15:39

I haven't received any pm Grace

EdwardtheEagle · 01/12/2012 15:41

There is NO NEED for fleece. A gap hooded top is the absolute limit.

careergirl · 01/12/2012 16:22

sorted. Tried on some dresses but not comfortable just not me.So went for colour block tunic with black leggings and bought some lovely long black boots which I needed anyway and would have bought regardless. I already have lots of chunky jewellery so I think the job is done

Golly that was quick - well done! Any links?

careergirl · 01/12/2012 17:35

The boots are Clarkes' Madison Rose which I would recommend by the way
