Hi I have some terrible marks on my face that ordinary make up does not cover. It is really getting me down. Does anyone know where I can get pecialist make up, the type used for covering up birthmarks. Thank you

If you go to your GP they should be able to put you in touch with the Red Cross who will teach you how to use the make up and which is best to use. A lot of it is mail order only.

The camoflague makeup service is now run by the charity Changing Faces - you can self refer through their website.

But I got some great help from a member of staff on the Mac counter on scar concealment - she showed me just how to cover up my massive and very dark scar, and it wasn't a matter of using thicker makeup, but balancing the colour. Well worth a try imo

If you do fancy doing it on your own, a couple of good products are Vichy dermablend foundation, and Estee Lauder Maximum coverage foundation, both available from Boots. There are also youtube video's on how to do it.

I'm not suggesting you don't get in touch with the charity, I just know if it were me, I would probably try other routes first.

I have very severe broken veins on my face, and have used both the above. The Estee Lauder one ( it's in a dark blue tube ) is my favourite. It's very full coverage, but looks quite natural if applied well.

Thanks, I think to begin with I would like to try myself but I am going to see a dr anyway to find out why I have these marks, they are scaring me and all I can see when I look in the mirror. I use lancome foundation which I like but it doesn't mask my marks at all.

I used to use dermablend on some scars. I found it was quite dark on the skin but certainly lasted.

What sort of marks are they? Have they suddenly or gradually appeared? Dark patches perhaps? This could be Melasma. My daughter has vitiligo, which is light patches. They are not on her face at the moment, but could spread there in future, I'm hoping they don't.
