The best lip balm?

my lips have gone dry and sore. what's the best lip balm for this - I don't really know what's caused it, and nightly applications of Vaseline aren't helping!

We thought we had tried them all, eventually settling on Palmer's cocoa butter formula lip balm. Off to research Carmex now!

thepeanutsparent · 29/11/2012 20:51

Palmers is yum! As is Aussie pawpaw butter thing that comes in a red pot -sorry can't rememeber brand.

Littlepumpkinpie · 29/11/2012 20:58

Another Carmex efan here. Aussie paw paw is Sils favourite.

Fluffy, I find that the lip balms that soak in leave my lips flaky and drier than before! I used to use Carmex but just didn't find it as smooth and emollient as Vaseline. Horses for course though!

CourseS. Bloody iPad!

I love the Palmers cocoa butter and mint balm, tastes great!

Myself and all my kids really suffer with dry chapped lips. The only thing that really helps us is Blistex Medicated Lip Balm. Comes in little blue pots, makes your lips go tingly and warm. Vaseline makes it much worse in our case.

polyhymnia · 29/11/2012 22:49

My favourite is By Terry's Baume de Rose.

Thinking of it as two separate problems has helped my lips...

Firstly you need something creamy and moisturising to rehydrate the lips and remove any soreness. SHouldn't be waxy or greasy. Pop it on and wait for it to sink in. Your lips should start to feel softer, less dry and less sore.

Then a minute or two later, use something greasy to protect your lips from drying out again. I've had problem lips for years and have found that lanisoh pure lanolin has worked wonders - the sort you usually buy if you're breast feeding (and found in the baby aisle in the supermarket). These days I just put a tiny splodge on before going to bed, occasionally in the morning and my lips are fine all day. Two or three days of forgetting to do this and they are a right old mess.

Carmex, especially in the tube

Fillybuster · 30/11/2012 10:40

Another vote for Carmex. Wonderful stuff :)

Although I really love the new(ish) Clinique Chubby Sticks, which deliver lovely colour and a good balm-like action. But that's more for when your lips are feeling a bit ropey but aren't actually in a bad way!

TeaBrick · 30/11/2012 10:54

Carmex is good, but it smells and tastes disgusting imo. Prefer burts bees or body shop vit E.

spottymoo · 04/12/2012 15:16

Been following this tread and purchased some carmex wow is all I can say its amazing had really dry flaky lips yesterday and this is pretty much cleared up in 24 hrs Grin

kittykarate · 04/12/2012 16:03

The foul taste of Carmex is part of the magic, it really puts you off licking your lips Xmas Grin

ArcticRoll · 04/12/2012 16:20

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream

valiumredhead · 04/12/2012 16:37

Palmers cocoa butter cream from Amazon.

becks5109 · 04/12/2012 16:38

flexitol - AMAZING

kernowgal · 04/12/2012 17:16

Bought some Carmex on Friday based on recs on this thread - cracked, sored, flaky lips gone by Saturday evening! It's amazing!

GrassIsntGreener · 04/12/2012 17:21

I have eczema and suffer sore lips, tried lots of things and Carmex wins by a mile. More effective than 8 hour cream imo.
