I am late '30's and have never been a frequent enough visitor to hairdressers to get to know a particular stylist. I dislike getting my hair done and I never know how to explain what I want.

I have naturally very straight hair although it has started to look fuller since I had children.

At the moment it is just about sitting on shoulder length.

I would like to keep most of the length but get it to look styled and groomed.

What I really want is it not to look so full at the bottom - does anyone know what I mean. I can never seem to explain it well.

Aw, I sympathise. Only this year have I found a hairdresser who doesn't make me cry!

I don't think that having a round face and glasses should mean you can't have a sweepy fringe if you want one. I also have both and have had my share of sweepy fringes. I think you would ask them to thin the bottom out a bit, but that's just a guess tbh, I don't know for sure. I'm sure they'd know what you mean if you posed the question while brandishing the picture!

I have found something that really helps is finding a selection of pictures of similar styles and asking the hairdresser for something like the pics but tailored to suit my face. If your hairdresser is any cop it shouldn't be a challenge for them. I have found this drastically reduces post-cut weeping and disappointment.

post cut weeping and disappointment Sounds familiar. It's not that I have had any major disasters more of a case of paying a lot of money to look exactly the same!

I hope your haircut goes well today Smile

Aah, thanks for remembering. I actually came home quite please yesterday. The stylist was lovely and listened to what I wanted.

What did you go for?

mindalina · 01/12/2012 23:11

hurrah I am really pleased for you Smile may this be the beginning of a long and successful relationship with your hairdresser

It's quite similar to the photo I posted above but with long layers in the front instead of the fringe - I wimped out on that.

She really thinned out the bottom so it sits really nicely and is very easy to do myself.

I also managed to get the stylists name (I usually don't remember) and she gave me a loyalty card so I'll go back to her again.

Thanks.
