Boys linen/cotton blazer?

I didn't realise it would be so difficult to find something for ds1 to wear for his First Communion in May. The major dept. stores have a sorry (and small) collection of suits and blazers made even smaller by the fact that I don't want black or grey. Bought him some nice pants from BHS of all places and planning to get a shirt from Benetton but no-one seems to do nice navy or blue (or beige, getting desperate now!) linen, cotton or light wool blazers. Gap have some but they stop at age 5. Anyone seen any or have any ideas? Please!

Next have a beige one, have you tried a wedding/bridal shop? They would have page boy jackets/blazers which would be suitable for a first communion, although they would probably be expensive.I have a light wool navy blazer that my son has worn once, but unfortunatly he was 5 when he wore it (last year) so it wont be any use for your son

Do they have to have a jacket? I thought they just wore white?

Monsoon?

Gillian76 · 08/04/2006 21:33

Just checked. Monsoon have a few. What size?

nephews had to wear a white shirt and a red tie with a red sash across them. nothing on top of that.

JanH, the girls wear white, boys usually wear suits or blazers although more casual wear is also coming in. In some areas, I think they have a standard outfit for the boys, like Alexmum suggested, but nowhere around here. Tried Benetton, Gap, Vertbaudet and a ton of other places with no luck. Tried Monsoon who had the perfect blazer in 7-8 but seemingly made for a very petite child and looked ridiculous on my tall 7-yr old. Anyway, after fruitless phone calls to every posh children's wear shop in the area (you'd think we'd do better in leafy Surrey!) eventually found myself in Guildford eyeing a Ralph Lauren number and they are ordering one in my son's size. Shocked at myself for being so establishment but also surprised that it didn't cost the three figures I had imagined and have justified it to myself by telling ds2 (5) who was with me that I've just bought his first communion jacket as well - wonder if I can chop the buttons off and put new ones on for him?!

Well I meant a white shirt for a boy, as alexsmum said - whenever I've seen pictures of First Communions the boys have all been in white shirts.

Hope between the 2 of them your DSs get some wear out of it, even if it wasn't 3 figures! Grin

Not sure \link{http://www.childrensalon.co.uk/index.php?cPath=1_225\this} site is any cheaper than Ralph Lauren, but is worth a look
