Please help! Since having my DS 4 months ago my hair has been falling out/ breaking off at an alarming rate. I'm going out on Saturday night for my first night out since last year and my shoulder length hair is a complete damaged looking mess. I'm too embarrassed to go to the hairdresser as they would end up holding handfuls of hair and need some tips about home treatments I could try to make my hair healthier looking. Thanks in advance.

Me too.

Just go to the hairdresser. Its such a common problem and they will have seen much worse. They should be able rp give you some styling tips too.

I don't have any advice I'm afraid, but I wanted to reassure you that it does stop falling out eventually!

Mine started falling out 4 months after the birth, and it fell out at a hairbrush-filling rate for about 3 months. I reckon about a third of my hair fell out :(

Once it stopped falling out, it started regrowing, so I've had short bits through my hair for the past 18 months! It getting so I can tuck it behind my ears now, but boy was it annoying when it was shorter.

TBH, this is the thing I would dread the most about another pregnancy/birth :( It just takes so long to resolve, and hits your confidence when it's a bit low anyway :(

I second that, go to the hairdresser. I lost horrendous amount of hair, wasn't prepared for it at all. Had my long hair cut to chin length. Looked so much better.

Hi irish

Me too! My little one is now 5 months and it began around month 3. This is my second baby so I was kind of expecting it but it doesn't make it any less upsetting.

I have found that taking an iron supplement (spatone - from Amazon) is helping. Though I should add while it's not making any difference to the amount of hair I'm losing, it is having a positive impact on the regrowth, certainly more so than first time around.

I'm am also desperately in need of a hair cut and while I know this would actually make my hair look better, I am too embarrassed! I am really hoping it eases up in the next few months (first time around I think it tailed off around month 7)

Hope this helps, in some small way.

PS Tips; I use one of those tangle teaser thingies in the shower when conditioning. I find it less harsh than brushing wet hair.

Thanks everyone, it helps knowing I'm not the only one going through this. I know that in the grand scheme it's not a big deal but it's really quite upsetting when you're lifting handful of hairs out of the shower! Will try and gear myself up for a hairdresser trip and have b

Three month mange. Or five month mange - it has a name. Any hairdresser will be used to it - I just wish it was mentioned in more baby books so people were prepared!
