curl friendly hairdressers in north London?

Title says it all really. I've been following CG routine for a while and following a disastrous haircut with someone who said they had lots of experience cutting curly hair but insisted on cutting it soaking wet and then slathered the resulting mess she'd made in silicone, I've been avoiding the scissors for far too long.

I'm hoping to find a salon in north London (Camden and points north I suppose) who can cut hair dry and will accept that I don't want shampoo/silicone on my hair.

Anyone know of any - especially one that doesn't cost the earth ... or am I hoping for too much?

I went into Brooks and Brooks in Holborn a few days ago and asked specifically for someone who especialises in curly hair. They recommended Emma and my appointment is in 3 weeks time. I'll let you know how it goes.

That would be great though not sure I can wait three weeks! How much do they charge btw - am supposed to be belt-tightening (though that was one reason I went to salon where they butchered me last time so maybe should just accept having to pay obscene amounts of dosh for decent cut?)

Anyone else know of any good curly cutters?

another brooks and brooks fan here. all the stylists are ace. i've been going for a couple of years and have only had good experiences.

i've had emma a couple of times and she does indeed rock.

i am curly, do partial CG method, but am happy having hair cut wet.

think emma is about £60 now? but, honestly, i would trust everyone in that salon (even most junior) and believe me I have very very exacting standards when it comes to hairdressers - i guess most of us curlies have had such bad experiences that we've ended up quite fussy.

@ tyaca - too true which is why I'm so keen to get recommendations. Can't remember who it was who said go for a dry cut but apparently that way they cut the curls individually so you don't get them cutting your hair soaking wet when it all looks the same length and doesn't allow for curl vagaries ... if that makes sense!

Any other recommendations gratefully received by the way!

yes, it is about £60. I used to have my hair cut by Valerie there, and she was excellent. Unfortunately she left, so this is my first time with Emma. I am glad to hear she's good as well. I will post on 15th december to let you know how it went.

I have been going to Brooks and Brooks for 2 years now, but as my hair only need cutting every 6 months, I don't think the price is too bad.

Just to update you, I went on Saturday and she did a brilliant job. Her hair is pretty much the same as mine, so she understood exactly what I needed and it looks fantastic

Stasi Salon in Junction Road, N19

You want the owner, I think his name is Chris, he's very curly himself so he knows all the drawbacks etc.
