Milia, how to get rid.

So, I've spent the best part of 10 years getting my skin acne free, and now I've finally done I've treated myself to Botox and my face looks better than it has in years (hoorah!).
However, I've now got milia at the tops of my cheeks, just below my eye 'hollows' iyswim. I've googled but nothing of note has come up. Anyone have any idea how I can get rid of them, they are my final skin nemesis!

Some beauty therapists say they can get rid of them as part of a facial. I think they use a needle.

I put a needle in and squeeze them like a spot and they pop out. It's a special treat when they appear.

I tried that parsnip and ended up with a very pretty yellowish scab for my trouble. Sad
So I need a beauty therapist maybe?

Yes, some therapists can do this.

i sometimes get the odd millia also around the eyes, my BT lances them and gets rid.

id treat yourself to a nice facial OP.

Hmmm, I think I might. They won't go scabby like when I've tried to do them myself will they?

no - they are a bit red for a day or so but the BT will use a sterile needle and not much pressure.

Excellent, I'll book in tomorrow. Love your name btw vicar.

I wash my face thoroughly and hold a hot flannel against them. Then I use a sterilised needle and gently squeeze. I do it at night as it makes me a s bit blotchy.

valiumredhead · 25/11/2012 17:30

a bit

toffeefee · 25/11/2012 17:34

I used to get loads and went to a BT who lanced them. You do get little red scabs, but in a couple of days they go and you skin looks so much clearer and smoother. I have a couple now but we've moved since I last had them and am still looking for a reputable place to sort them out for me!

perplexedpirate · 25/11/2012 19:44

Once I've had them done, is there any way I can prevent them recurring, or are they just one of those things?

Regular gentle exfoliation helps a lot but does seem to be one of those things you either get or don't.

apols thread-barge, but vicar are you lurkal to beverley/Hull? If so where do you go for a good thorough facial?
thanks!

Is there a reason why milia appear? I too get them round eyes so a bit wary of dealing with them.

ThatVikRinA22 · 26/11/2012 13:31

i think its just down to your skin type - i have quite oily skin.
withjamin i dont live in beverley or hull - i travel for my hair cuts but not for facials - for my facial i stay local, i live about 30 mins away. I just go to a local independent beauty salon. Try a few out or phone and see what they offer?
my bt uses sothys products, but to be honest i dont think it matters that much as long as they use the right stuff for your skin type.

Isthisme · 26/11/2012 14:50

I also had mine removed by a Beauty Therapist about 7 years ago, didn't cost very much as far as I recall and did get small red scabs but they went quickly.

Luckily they have never returned, must have been some sort of product which caused them, but touch wood.. still clear.
