'You carry your weight well'

Would you take it as a compliment?

Because I was kind of offended.

I'm 5ft 4, size 12 and approx 140lbs.

Never thought people would think of me as 'carrying' extra weight, but now thinking I should be losing a few pounds

I would be offended. It is a rude and unnecessary thing to say

Beaverfeaver · 25/11/2012 12:43

Thought so! My 'friend' was thinking he was passing a compliment and didn't see the problem.

Not really , I am a tad overweight but carry it well. Would not pretend otherwise

ItsALongWayToPickAWilly · 25/11/2012 14:00

I would think it was a compliment gone wrong. She probably meant it to sound like a nice thing but didn't really think about it first.

LucettaTempleman · 25/11/2012 14:07

I think it depends on the context of the conversation. I mean, did he just come out with it? Or had you been discussing it and you told him your weight? To be fair, in my experience most men haven't got a clue about weight in relation to a woman's shape. 140 is fine for 5'4" but it may just sound like a big number to a man's ears.
I don't think offence was intended.

ItsALongWayToPickAWilly · 25/11/2012 14:09

Oops just read it was a he not she.
More than likely good intentions.

Ummofumbridge · 25/11/2012 14:12

I think it's probably meant in a good way if it was from a man. From a woman it could have been bitchy.

bettybleep · 25/11/2012 15:00

I think he meant you carry it in all the right placesWink
