Teeth whitening - good results

Recently bought gel and tray from the smile place (www.the-smile-place.com) - basically you pay £99 and they send you some moulding stuff which you bite into and send back to them to make up a proper tray for your teeth (as would a dentist) -they then send you the finished tray plus gel and you wear overnight or 3 hours daily for a week or so. Very good results and white teeth. A bit pricey but considering the price of some of the toothpastes which are not always brilliant a real bargain. Also the same quality as a dentist which would cost about £500.

Hmm - I've just been asking my dentist about this - they charge about £350!

They're not glaringly white are they?

Luggs · 08/04/2006 10:04

No, I think you have to have veneers fitted for that full on mega white hollywood look !!The bleach trays produced a natural look - whiter but not false looking.

is there a risk of allergic reaction? what is in the gel?

Luggs · 08/04/2006 10:10

Also it is a gradual effect because you wear rthe trays overnight/each day over a period of time - you can stop whenever happy with the effect. My hairdresser has very white teeth but he used the trays every night for 6 months and was banned by his dentist from buying any more gel !

carbamide peroxide - no alergic reactions for me but prob best to speak to a dentist if unsure. If you have sensitive teeth you can choose a lower strength gel.

I bought a little teeth scraper thing in Boots years ago that was very effective for removing stains, I can't find it now and boots don't seem to have them any more. Any ideas??? I don't know what to ask for as I don't know ehat you call it.

Apparently, brushing your teeth with bicarb od soda witens your teeth.

monkeytrousers · 08/04/2006 22:57

What strength is the gel, Luggs? Is it peroxide?

monkeytrousers · 08/04/2006 22:59

Only asking as I got some carbamide peroxide and was told to only use it for 30 mins - and had no effect (in gel trays).

Luggs · 09/04/2006 19:14

Can buy 22%, 16% or low strength. I used 22% and good results not sure about lower strength
