Can anyone recommend a nail varnish which lasts a few days. With doing all the housework, mine tends to chip the following day, but looking for something which will last a bit longer over Christmas.

Avon nailwear pro + seems to work for me - use a top coat on it as well for maximum number of days. Depends on the shade as to how long it lasts but coral lasts up to 7 days for me with no chipping.

You need No7 Stay Perfect top coat - amazing stuff. Pinot recommended it to me and it is utterly brilliant and only a fiver.

Sensationail - min 2 weeks, have sometimes had 3 weeks out of it, 6-8 weeks on toes.
Well worth the initial outlay, cost is only same as 3 salon visits!
(& I love the no dry time!)

Try shellac nails at a salon? It's £20 at our local place and lasts 2 to 3 weeks and is practically indestructible! Doesn't take long to do and doesn't wreck your nails. It's also my favourite as it dries then and there so no smudging trying to get your car keys out!

A lot of people I know that have used Shellac have said it leaves their nails a bit brittle and uneven. Is this not the case? I'd love to get it done for Christmas, but don't want to end up with crap nails in January.

Lancôme. It's pricy but lasts for ages. I don't tend to wear it on my fingernails unless on holiday and then usually only needs one application for a whole week, but always paint toes in summer. I generally have to remove it when nail growth becomes obvious but it hardens so well that I can clip nails without chipping. Colour is dense so you only need a couple of coats.
It also lasts in bottle forever I am still using bottles I have had for 8 yrs or more. I tend to use Sally Hanson undercoat/overcoat.

I've only had shellac twice so not a habitual user, but my nails were absolutely fine afterwards. You have to make sure you remove it properly, and then I painted my nails with one of those strengthening polishes by Sally Hansen and they looked absolutely normal straightaway, no weakening. Smile

The new Revlon range is amazing.Never do I remove nail polish before it chips but I got bored with it being on for days. Top coat from same range also used.

Jackstini · 21/11/2012 21:32

Celticlassie - as long as you remove properly (and don't pick it off!) your nails will be fine. A good cuticle oi between treatments is good too

CountBapula · 21/11/2012 21:33

Yes Celticlassie, Shellac ruined my nails :( I had it once a year ago and they're still really ridged and pitted Angry

Nails Inc Kensington Caviar topcoat is good. Dries quickly, shiny finish, lasts pretty well.

Maybelline Pro, or Rimmel Pro. Not a huge choice of colours but excellent staying power. My nails take some hammer but these two last 4ish days. Anythjng else such as Revlon pro doesn't last as long IME. No7 stay perfect range also good and OPI. But average 3 days. I don't fancy the shellac/gel stuff purely because I get bored with a colour after 3 or 4 days anyway!! And I like my polish to match my outfit not really high maintenance

luckylavender · 22/11/2012 12:26

Models Own at Boots. Use a base coat and top coat - I can make it last 2 weeks, with housework, and it's inexpensive.

Lottapianos · 22/11/2012 13:02

Seche Vite top coat leaves any polish looking glossy, dries in 10 minutes tops and lasts well for 4-5 days

I have shellac done religiously every two weeks and then leave it off for a month in August. My nails are naturally very soft and bendy, and break long before they grow a tip, but with shellac I can keep them undamaged. Its because they are porous, i think, and the shellac protects them. At first, by salon recommended frequent breaks, but having seen the state my nails ended up in agreed that regular shellac is best for me (though I know that won't be true for people who naturally have hard nails as it does dry them out). But if you want it just for Christmas then shellac is perfect as it won't wear off at the wrong moment!
