Can someone help me? DS has been given an AA hoodie by his dad, and wanted to wear it to school today. His dad got it from ebay and I am worried that it isn't genuine, and that if DS wears it to school, and it does turn out to be fake and it is spotted, he will be made fun of. How do I tell if it is the real deal? It has the white cords in the front which look right, but how else do I know? Are the any special marks/stitching etc that real A's have but fakes won't?

I posted thhis yesterday, but no one answered Sad. It has cused a row because I wouldn't let DS wear it today (and gave him aa rubbish reason lol - I don't want to tell him unless it def isn't a real one).

Ta for any help...

perhaps go to their website and compare the two?

helpyourself · 19/11/2012 21:29
Confused Does it really matter? I know the ones you mean. DD1 has an, I guess, knock off one from Topshop and DD2 has a similar one from Primark. Just let him wear it.

Surely aa isn't expensive enough to warrant fakes? I don't believe there are any distinguishing features, some aa stuff has quite random labels even.
I doubt his friends would be able to tell if he can't.

cocobongo · 19/11/2012 21:30

why are you so bothered? you are creating this situation- doesn't sound like your son is bothered.

germyrabbit · 19/11/2012 21:32

aa do about a hundred different types of hoodie! the most populat F497 (or something) has a metal zipper but they do others that don't!

you could post a pic if you want to, but lots of people sell AA stuff on ebay

RedWhiteAndBlur · 19/11/2012 23:20

Thanks for all the replies Smile
Well, £42 for a hoodie IS expensive for us...
It is an issue because according to DS, a special kind of ridicule is reserved for those that try to pass fake AA hoodies off as real ones. It is the worse thing to happen in the playground at the moment (in DS's world, of course), because AA stuff is so 'in'.
DS has never had anything remotely 'in' before, so him wearing an AA is going to draw attention, because he is normally very square, hence my concern that the hoodie is genuine.
DS thinks it is fine because his dad says so. I, on the other hand, don't trust him, not even on small stuff like this - hence the fact he is an ExH...
Ta for the tip re the metal zipper. I shall check. Not sure about the random labels Smile

I think what people are trying to say is nobody would make an AA knock off as they are not worth enough.

You can buy hoodies that look like AA ones from other shops (Topshop, Primark etc) but they would have their own labels in, if it has AA labels I reckon it is a pretty safe bet it is from AA Smile

germyrabbit · 20/11/2012 16:30

the F497 are worth £40 or so, so maybe not much to some but generally quite alot for a hoody!

the 'knock off's are by companies called 'men's apparel' 'original apparel''american authentic' they do always list under american apparel, which is annoying!

poppy283 · 20/11/2012 18:30

Sorry I meant knock offs are usually of designer labels, not basic jersey items - I would say they're overpriced if they didn't have such high ethical standards in their factories.

RedWhiteAndBlur · 22/11/2012 10:12

Thanks again everyone.
I had a look at the pics on the website, and at the hoodie, and it looks right, so DS wore it yesterday. No one called him on it, and he came home a happy bunny coz one of the cool kids said 'good choice' to him lol. I bet DS didn't say his dad chose it!
I have read up a bit about AA, and I like their ethical stance - a lot. I still think £42 is a lot for a hoodie though!
