In an attempt to keep my skin and hair in better condition this winter, I thought I'd try a more natural product. Just wondered if anyone had used Faith in Nature, Good People or Liz Earle and what you thought.

valiumredhead · 08/11/2012 10:00

Oh I have started putting xxx's in all over the place on MN - just to piss people off, it's my new pass time Wink

Madmog · 08/11/2012 10:07

Thanks for all your replies - really helpful and gives me something to think about. Haven't decided which products get, but am going to invest in some facial products and hair care products for myself and perhaps get a couple of bath/shower toiletries for my hubby and daughter for christmas as they get dry/irritated skin in winter.

We're all friends sort of aren't we ?Grin it doesn't piss me off xxxGrin Brew

valiumredhead · 08/11/2012 12:31

Me neither - but it does some people apparently, there are threads about it, which makes me want to do it even more Grin xxx

I use in Faith in Nature conditioner and it is nice, hardly any ingredients. Green People use someting that I react to, although can't pinpoint what it is. I am horrendously sensitive o the skin front. Body Shop is full of chemicals, don;t use it.

ppeatfruit · 08/11/2012 12:52

valium GrinIt takes all sorts I s'pose. Though if it upsets people they should get a life IMO xxx{grin]

valiumredhead · 08/11/2012 12:53

Quite! xxx

Callisto · 08/11/2012 14:18

Liz Earle cleanser is good, and really works, but was underwhelmed by their shampoo, toner and moisturiser...pretty average.

ppeatfruit · 08/11/2012 17:41

I 've got a good book by Liz Earle in which she talks about essential oils and others. I just use those mixed into a carrier oil of course for cleansing AND moisturising it's much cheaper 'cos you don't need much at all. In fact I've started collecting all different types and they smell sooo lovely and REAL somehow Grin xxxxx

Mewsical · 08/11/2012 22:31

Ppeatfruit - would that not make you wonder about the said company and want to find out more about their company and production methods then??

ppeatfruit · 09/11/2012 09:48

I get more concerned about the way the monopolies advertise their shxx products containing mainly SLS and pretend they're soooo lovely in their adverts.

Mistry is open in its website if you had a look Mews ( I assume you're referring to them?)

They probably mean free from petro-chemicals, which they appear to be. The site is not particularly well written or laid out, but the ingredients lists seem to all be exclusively plant-based.

There are lots of sls free shampoos that advertise as such. Faith in Nature is once example, but sls-free shampoo etc tend not to be mainstream so you probably wouldn't see them advertised on the tv or whatever. Parabens are a carcinogen and mimic oestrogen, that is all I need to know to avoid them.

ppeatfruit · 09/11/2012 11:35

fridgepants I don't REACT dramatically to SLS's but they dry my skin and hair badly so I don't use them at all if I can help it.

The Mistry site maybe a bit disingenuous but I use their products and have never used any stuff (including expensive organic 'green' stuff) that is better ( I always go by experience).

A lot of companies ,green and non green, give their products the name e.g. 'lavender and nettle shampoo" and then the actual amount of lavender they use comes about 8th or even later in the list of ingredients. Hmm

Callisto have you tried neat tea tree es. oil on yr pony's bites? Fresh lemon juice is good too.

Callisto · 09/11/2012 14:24

I know, a phenomenon called green-washing I believe. You really have to read the fine print of everything which can be such a bore.

PPeatfruit - I'm going to try neem/tea tree when the midges start again in the spring but for now I need to calm his skin down. With sweet itch the horse reacts against the midge bites and the skin goes into overdrive which results in the body attacking itself. Obviously prevention is best, but dpony's sweet itch is so bad that I need to primarily treat the symptoms. His loan family used benzyl benzoate and dermoline, both of which are petro-chemical based and neither of which worked at all (he rubbed his entire mane out - it was a super-thick shetland mane in the spring and now there is nothing left Sad). So I am going down the pant-based route. I have James Wongs book and would love to make his eczema cream as I think this would benefit dpony too (similar symptoms) but fresh viola flowers are a bit hard to come by at this time of year.

I think I'm ging to try the Aloe Propolis cream and the Calendula cream, hopefully it will help.

ppeatfruit · 09/11/2012 16:13

Aaah poor poniesSadI like citronella as well as neem 'cos it helps with the itching and works as an insecticide too. Chickweed is good for eczema too. If he's in pain homeopathic remedies worked for our dogGrin Ducks the flames
