Any tips please?? I am 5' 6 and realistically need to lose 3 stone but in the meantime how can I look smart for my part time work. Having been a SAHM for a no of years and living in jeans/leggings/long tops - I never feel smart enough for work Sad

I take inspiration from this lady who manages to pull off larger and stylish very well. I think you do need to make sure your hair and makeup is done and you need to dress up a bit more. Play to your assets. I have a small waist and upper half but larger hips, bum etc so I draw attention to my top half with more colour and detail.

Fab blog! Smile

Personally, I'm stuck on smart/casual... I want to wear straight leg jeans but would have to wear a 20/22. No idea what else to wear! Sad

humpty I've got a couple of nice tunic dresses from Primark in the past and also find that I can get away with knitted dresses over leggings if the style is right?? Will see if I can link ...... direct.asda.com/george/womens-knitwear/fine-knit-cowl-neck-tunic-purple/GEM267186,default,pd.html?cm_vc=GRGBZBOT

friendlymum never even considered something like that. I am 5 ft 1 and size 16 bottom and 18 top with big boobs, g cup.

Desparate to look nicer, stuck in a jeans and jumper type rut which isn't really doing anything for me. will try something like you suggested. just have this nightmare of somebody asking me if i'm pregnant Blush

doesn't help that my sister who is a size 10 and small busted, seems to pull off the tunic look effortlessly which made me think, don't even bother!!!

this has been really interesting reading. LFC you are good!

I agree that black can make you look bigger. I find patterns also hide a multitude of lumps and bumps and can make you look slimmer. I also like structure in my clothes, rather than floaty things, I found good underwear can make such a difference.

I think you need to work out what cuts suit you. And what colours, I'm autumn colours, so plums, browns, khaki, olive, burnt orange, dark red's really work with my skin/hair tone.

I worked with a variety of woman who are plus sized. I am bottom heavy carrying my weight on my hips and thighs, another colleague has all her weight spread evenly, boobs, belly, hips and thighs, and another was all up heavy up top, boobs and belly. We never wear the same things, but you can see that we used similar techniques in our styling to make our statements.

DH believes I look much slimmer in my work/smart outfits. I'm taking a career break and looking after DD, it's a waste to wear my nice clothes around her as she'd just smear boogers [or worse] in them. So I am wearing comfy/casual and it just isn't me. No matter how well groomed I am casual wear seems to just bulk me out.

new names I ignore labels as I vary in size in so many shops. Evans are a plus sized store yet I have to wear a 26, they are tight in the thigh and big at the waist. Yet I buy south jeans in debenhams that are a 20 and they fit beautifully. Typically I can be anywhere in the range of 16-18-20-22, with some extremes.

My favourite dress is a red herring dress, bought off eBay a few years ago as the price was high, it's a purple, khaki and brown big flower print, sounds unattractive but it really isn't. It's easy to accessorise. It's a false wrap dress, it has an underlayer that hugs my hips and tum and hides the worst of the lumpy bumpy's. I normally hate dresses, but this one is fantastic, hits below the knee and is just fab.

Debenhams free shopping service really is worth trying, their stylists have a keen eye and will suggest things that you would never, ever have picked out. There is no pressure to buy, in fact was told to go and mull it over and they'll reserve them for 5 days.

You don't need a huge wardrobe full of stuff, it's about co-ordinating items, so that you can mix and match. Accessories can really make an outfit, it's worth having nice ones.

humpty This is a size 10(!) but I have 2 of these in an 18 and with a long sleeve top underneath, I feel halfway decent ........ www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ATMOSPHERE-BLACK-BUTTONED-PINAFORE-AUTUMN-WINTER-TUNIC-MINI-DRESS-10-EXCEL-/261121985671?pt=UK_Women_s_Dresses&hash=item3ccc154c87

I can't get tunics to work either - they just hang from my boobs and make me look pregnant because they tend to have no waist.

I now ask myself WWKWW? What Would Karen Walker Wear? She is short, deliciously heavy but always (in character) looks absolutely incredible - and note, waisted!

  1. Get a really good unfussy haircut and colour to hide grey. If you don't have a great hairdresser already recommend Vidal Sasson salons but£££
  2. spend on a great coat and bag.
  3. get your colours done so you know what really makes you look great
  4. wear you flattering colours next to the face and slimming black/ navy/ dark brown / charcoal on your bottom half
  5. shoes/ tights/ socks should be same colour as what what you're wearing on your bottom half
  6. bit of natural make up- check out Lisa Eldriges make up demos on you tube. Selfridges also do fab consultations.
  7. get your teeth whitened. Ps ask for all above as birthday/ Xmas/ anniversary presents
