I have a few puffy coats and I like them but when I go out wearing a dress, I have to put a puffy coat on top of the look. Not quite right. But yet, I do need a warm coat.

Where can you buy nice sheepskin?

dexter73 · 03/11/2012 22:03

Sheepskin coats are nice but very heavy to wear.

i KNOW what you mean mathanxiety. it looks like a tunic not a coat.

i bet it's a lot cheaper in the us as well.

MadAboutHotChoc · 04/11/2012 17:02

Wool coats in the olden days were really heavy - modern ones are not warm enough.

reviving a zombie thread to promote a new company-would this be a bit of free advertising??

I find wool coats lovely and warm but they're not waterproof or wind proof so it depends on the weather conditions you'll be out in.

Layers are the answer. Stick a thin lightweight (Uniqlo) puffa UNDER a roomy cocoon type wool coat. (Great one from Seasalt called Lower Amble in two colours - looks v.expensive). Et voila - warm!

isadora077 · 16/10/2015 15:45

and yes, I agree. Old fashioned (vintage?) coats were warmer because they weighed a TON.

NanoNinja · 16/10/2015 18:29

To repeat a previous question (from 5 years ago!) - has anyone got any recs for sheepskin coats?

lorelei9 · 16/10/2015 18:47

I have a Dennis Basso shearling coat, it's not heavy and it's very warm. It's really smart, which is why I bought it in fact, but it's 100 x warmer than a wool coat, so that's an option. QVC also have Centigrade shearling coats but it depends how smart you need it to be.

I was looking at this coat and thinking it's nice, but probably not warm at all, also not sure about the weave/texture - good price though

I actually bought a burgundy (real) sheepskin coat in a charity shop - it is heavy but it is so warm and a beautiful, rich colour. All for £10! Most charity shops squirrel out their sheepskin coats and jackets that they have been hoarding in their back rooms about now - def. worth a look.
