How many coats do you have?

For some reason I always see a coat I like every winter and can't resist the temptation of buying it, so I have one black knee length, one red & black longer length (issued by work), one short purple, one short black imitation fur. For the summer I have a lightweight blue coat and a waterproof (as we camp a lot). Making 6 coats.

Also, have two others which i'm about to throw out. Although, they have some wear they are my least favourite and I haven't got room! Only problem is I've got my eyes on a slate blue one I've seen!

rathlin, do you live on Rathlin island? or come from there?

Justreadthefuckingwords · 02/11/2012 14:43

Ohh coats, now you're talking

APC Navy Blazer, quite thick wool
Whistles Blazer, tan, thinner, more Spring wear
Miu Miu Trench/raincoat, quite lightweight
Goat hooded long knitted coat
Karl Donoghue shearling for super chilly weather
Gloverall navy duffel - 3/4 length
Tweedy single breasted Hobbs smart coat
Boring Aigle padded jacket - good for sledging etc
Black Marmot waterproof

Think that's it, was lusting after the APC duffel but settled for the Gloverall which is almost as lovely.

Justreadthefuckingwords · 02/11/2012 14:45

Ohh yes, & a Toast military style jacket.

Justreadthefuckingwords · 02/11/2012 14:48

I've been looking at new coats but seeing that lot I probably don't need one. Probably.

RarelyUnreasonable · 02/11/2012 15:24

One winter coat - maternity, wool-mix. Long, warm and good colour. (New look via eBay)
One rain jacket for camping. Hate it.
One new look trench - single breasted (good), not warm (bad).
Lightweight, tweedy blazer that I love.
Joules gilet.

I want a wool blazer and a properly warm raincoat, but am on tight budget - already spent november's allowance!
Next year I want a non-maternity, mainly wool coat and plan to get one in the sales this year. I'd also like a denim jacket for spring.

Aquelven · 02/11/2012 15:34

Far too many Blush
I seem to have a thing about coats.

VivaLeBeaver · 02/11/2012 15:43

VerySmallSqueak · 02/11/2012 19:50

I don't have a proper bum covering coat.
I have probably half a dozen jackets,a parka and a goretex jacket.

Tertius · 02/11/2012 19:57

Plenty - I find I need a lot for different places and weather so: puffy long winter warm, long rainproof, short tweedy, linen mac style for smart, smart wool, jackets fr spring, swing style for maternity and babies in slings, ski jacket I still own from disastrous ski holiday many moons ago, various fleeces and tweedy things I keep at my parents. Not too many for me as I use them all at different times.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 02/11/2012 20:03

I feel properly in awe! I have a Berghaus waterproof and that's it at the mo.

I'm doing my best to find a proper winter coat this year but my stupid bosom is getting in the way.

Something tells me S&B is not for the likes of me Wink

Mominatrix · 02/11/2012 20:06

White ski jacket (!)
Orange windbreaker

A black leather biker jacket
A cream wool coat
A red wool coat
A red cotton Harrington
A navy velvet blazer
A dark denim jacket

sansucre · 02/11/2012 20:46

I totally agree with the sentiment that in Winter, it's your coat that's the most important thing!
Every year, I vow to buy a colourful one but never do, so my wardrobe contains the following -

Valentino Boutique black leather jacket with black velvet ribbons applique on the sleeves (belonged to my mother in the 80s, had it altered so the ghastly American football player-esque shoulders were removed!)
Black Marc by Marc Jacobs pea coat, seen better days and I should probably give it to a charity shop.
Old A.P.C. dark blue denim jacket
Kate Moss for Topshop navy v. fitted leather jacket.
Black Miu Miu princess coat bought from their outlet in Italy.
Comptoir des Cotonniers parka with detachable lining, also known as 'that wretched parka'
Zara cream trench.
New Look navy crombie with black (p)leather sleeves (bought on sale for a bargainous £27.50!
Max & Co navy 'Bianca' coat. Absolutely gorgeous, bought a few months ago from Fenwicks on Bond Street. Worn it 5 times so far since purchase and each time, someone has stopped me to ask me where it's from Grin

Oh, I also have a fur coat of my mothers which I wear when it's really, really cold!

Imlostwithoutahope · 02/11/2012 21:08

I have:
Khaki summer jacket, hip length-next. Now looks faded and buttons broken
Black leather biker jacket- next
Red sporty looking lightweight jacket- next
Purple long wool coat-oasis, looks smart but cold
Purple trench coat-new look, arm adjusters keep falling off
Green trench coat-next, always looks crumpled
Helly Hanson mac- hideous pale blue colour, too mummy
Peter storm PAC a mac- bought because I wanted a patterned mac but its too short so legs get wet
Boden cagoule( meant to be waterproof but wasn't)
Regatta PAC a mac( notice a trend) ok in summer
Navy padded waterproof mac-seasalt( just bought)
Brown down padded coat-lands end for cold dry days

Even though I have these I'm still looking for the perfect coat. I want a smart warm coat and nice going out jacket

Catrin · 02/11/2012 21:33

Too many, yet oddly, not enough...

Purple Whistles knee length winter coat - ancient, but fab
Khaki zip up military ish jacket
Leopard lined parka
Floor length furry black thing that i adore but makes me look like a bear
Blue peacoat, love it
Sensible waterproof thing
Navy hoody
Black leather biker jacket

BrandyAlexander · 02/11/2012 21:48

Oh I wasn't including jackets/Blazers in my first post! That probably doubles it from a sane looking 15 ish to an unmanageable 30! I have my eye on another couple. There's a red pea coat in Monsoon I keep seeing that I like and a White one. However, I don't like the last one I. Bought (Jaege) and too late to return! It was a foolish buy as it is meant for normal height people asopposed to shoort arses!

justasecond · 02/11/2012 23:42

I love coats and look forward to cold weather so I can just wear one over anything. I spend more on a nice coat than any other item of clothing as for almost half a year its the main thing you wear. I have
Teal whistles knee length wool coat
Karen millen beige knee length wool coat
Jigsaw black long slim maxi coat - I have had this for over 10 years but I think maxi coats are on the brink of a comeback (desperate hoarder)
Hot pink top shop coat not worn much but love it
Mango down coat for really cold and school run
Zara camel wool coat
Same zara coat in grey
Off white military style below knee from zara- worn t death in 2003_2005 but have kept as its my most favourite coat ever.
