What bras will give me a rack like Joan from Mad Men?

I'm a 32 H so the size is not a problem but the bras I'm currently wearing still leave everything looking a bit droopy. I would like my bras to move everything a bit more front and centre so I look really well supported. I'm not looking for anything terribly sexy just well engineered I guess!

All advice welcome Smile

I had to size up in the back in the EW, from a 30 to a 32. It has given though with wear.

Thanks SorrelForbes, I'm pleased you managed to understand my speaking English as a foreign language question. It must be looking at an international website Blush. So if I'm normally a 34H, that'd be a 36GG?

SorrelForbes · 01/11/2012 23:45

Quite possibly. I ordered a couple of sizes in each bra. The Karmelki fitted great at 32G but the Bizkopy was a bit big in the cup and I probably should have got a 32FF. Trial an error unfortunately. Cheap bras though!

Bobby Brown, that supposed make-up expert, said to tie the bra straps up at the back, for a halter-neck style hoick up. It does kinda work, but not in a real life way. Who is gonna tie them up for you? I did it at the swimming pool once and they looked okay, but obviously it was a right struggle to tie it and get out of me cossie after.

Can I recommend trying Kris Line (brastop sell them)

Try not to be put off by the slightly porno style models - the bras themselves are absolutely amazing and give me the best lift of any I have tried. I am a big fan of the bravissimo Alana but in terms of up and out, the Kris Line is streets ahead.

I second the Doreen, gives a classic retro hoiked up and at 'em bosom.

I buy from R&P and I'd say I spend maybe £60 - £90 on a bra (they do sports ones for around £35). They are very expensive but I have very few bras but they do fit me well - I see it as worth the money as you could easily spend £80 on, say, 3 bras from M&S but none of them would fit right, so I may as well only have one to the three I could have had but have it fit properly.

Also, I always have balcony style bras. Granted they're not great for very low cut tops, but they give a really nice shape under clothes (well supported and in the right place). R&P ladies always seem to tell me that shape suits my bust Hmm or maybe they're just so huge it's all they have in stock in my size Hmm

FWIW I think go to a good shop and get fitted/learn how to tell how bras fit you well and then over time you'll be knowledgable enough to go into high street stores and pick cheaper ones yourself. Oh, and DON'T PUT THEM IN THE MACHINE if you want them to last!

reastie · 02/11/2012 07:52

Oh yes, and when I go to R&P I almost always end out leaving with a bra from 'prima donna' brand - they do excellent bras - have been a very happy customer of theirs for a few years now.

good old fashioned marks n spencers or bhs

I'm another one who has had a terrible experience with M&S. They told me I was a 34F when actually I'm a 32H - shocking! I bought one of their bras in 34GG - it looks lovely but is the most uncomfortable thing ever, makes me feel like I'm being sawn in half.

I own one M&S Bra in a 32G which was the closest I could get to my usual size of 30G. It is uncomfortable and lumpy! M&S measured me as a 36C.

JemimaMuddledUp · 02/11/2012 09:54

Worst bra fitting I ever had was in JoJo Maman Bebe for a BF bra. They told me I needed a 40B, which seemed unlikely as I was a D cup before the pregnancy and so was hardly going to shrink 2 cup sizes when breastfeeding!

JRsandCoffee · 02/11/2012 10:34

Sorry if someone has already suggested........anything from Prima Donna, they sell them in Rigbys and also through a company called Bella di Notte www.belladinotte.com/bras/prima-donna-bras.html and in most decent posh bra shops (although possibly not the ones that sell the undies that are mostly for taking off if you get my meaning). Bought my first one in a sale about 7 years ago and it is still just about as good as new (obviously white ones do eventually go a bit grey but colours and darks stay like new FOREVER it seems). I've worn a size up wired Prima Donna bra for the duration of my pregnancy with no problems at all as couldn't face the unwired monoboob of doom look!

If you look at them and think hmmmm not that alluring/ sexy, they give you a cracking rack under your clothes and do come in a variety of cuts, balconnette etc. To be honest I think even the everyday ones (I have Madisons and Deauvilles) they are very pretty, in a classy kind of way Smile, their fashion ones are lovely.....if I'm feeling flush.......which is seldom..... And the DH is pretty mesmerised with the whole effect/ collection and I'm comfortable, not itchy or hoiking straps up or fiddling with the damn things all the time to get comfy which I get with just about any other brand.

(Goes back to fervently praying that she shrinks back into the existing collection after the baby is born.........PLEASE GOD!!!!)

JRsandCoffee · 02/11/2012 10:35

Oh, and another lady who is blessed of rack summed it up nicely to me "I can run for a bus in a sexy bra without looking ridiculous, what is not to like????"

SorrelForbes · 02/11/2012 10:37

I too am a big Prima Dona fan. Lovely bras. I have a couple from the Wonderland range.

Lolaismyfavouriteandmybest · 02/11/2012 10:43

Was going to suggest you try the Deco Bra by Freya but its only up to GG. Could you wear a 34GG without being horribly unsupported around the chest?
