This coat - in red or navy?

This is a present from DH for Birthday & Christmas, I have both here to try on but can't decide which colour

Here is the red:

Here is the navy:

I like them both, the red is lovely & vibrant and I've never had a brightly coloured coat before, but I feel the navy is more classy and would be a better investment (this will have to last me forever as I'm about to become a SAHM), just wondering what others think?

Thank you :)

i like the red best, and the only thing that would bug me is that the toggle/trimmings are brown, but if you are tan/brown for boots and bag then definitely go for it.

navy is very fourth form!

apachepony · 30/10/2012 13:35

Red. It makes me happy when I put on my red coat

thesmallestpotato · 30/10/2012 13:46

Wow, red/navy really does divide opinion!

Both children are asleep so have just been to try the coats on

The navy does look more expensive than the red, it definitely looks smarter and it looks like it goes with more of my existing stuff, it also seems to make me look slightly slimmer, however I do have a navy coat already (a knee-length smart military style one)

The red does lift my complexion and looks more 'fun' than the navy, though I think it makes me look ever so slightly bulkier than the navy and possibly does look a little mumsy

I really can't decide and this is one occasion where I definitely can't keep both!

I love the red but I have a red duffle jacket that makes me happy when I'm wearing it so I'm biased

cocolepew · 30/10/2012 13:50

Red, bright coats are lovely in the winter.

squoosh · 30/10/2012 13:50

Navy is so much more chic.

I really love wearing red, red dresses, red jumpers, gorgeous. But red coats do look a bit mumsy.

cocolepew · 30/10/2012 13:55

Laura Ashley have a red funnel neck coat and a nice grey tweed duffel . Duffelcoatsuk.co.uk have lovely ones too.Sorry can't link from phone.

Holymoly321 · 30/10/2012 15:14

NAVY. Red with brown always makes me think of meat (!). Navy is much classier, will last you longer, and will never go out of fashion. It's a classic. Red would make you look like Paddington Bear. Plus, I always think red looks a bit cheap.

polyhymnia · 30/10/2012 15:17

Navy, definitely.

Jakadaal · 30/10/2012 15:18

Navy is lovely but a little conservative ie. look at me I have been bought to last a long time ... Red says hey look at me I'm expensive and fabulous! but then I like red Grin

dexter73 · 30/10/2012 16:55

Navy as I never wear red.

HoopDePoop · 30/10/2012 17:14

Red red red! I had the same concerns 3 years ago, went for a budget busting red duffle and every winter I dig it out and it makes me happy. I think if you suit red you won't regret it.

janey1234 · 30/10/2012 17:17

Red. My all-time favourite ever coat was red. It brightens up the gloomy winter days so much, and weirdly seems to go with everything. A girl in the office got a gorgeous red coat last year and it nearly made me weep with envy (lost mine drunk)
Red red red...

digerd · 30/10/2012 19:25

Definately the red - the dark blue is too drab

digerd · 30/10/2012 19:32

If you have blond hair, then the blue will look fine on you, and yes darker colours will go with more other colours than the red, and make you look more elegant and stream-lined. I can't wear dark colours myself, and am naturally elegant and stream-lined < old greyish face and shapeless figure> !!

Go for the blue, I can see you prefer it and all your arguments for it are correct. Especially if you are blond or red haired with a lovely glowing bloom to your complexion I think the style is lovely

sweetheart · 30/10/2012 20:02

I think judging by your comments you know the sensible and practical thing to do is buy the blue but your frivolous side wants the red so my suggestion is that you should buy the expensive blue coat as an investment but also buy a cheap red coat to indulge yourself and brighten yourself up on dreary days. If our find n a year or so that you wore the red more tan you though you will feel confident investing in a red coat next time round Grin

I would say red but it looks a washed out red. If thats the shade of red in rl then its the navy.

nowrinklesonamelon · 03/11/2012 18:31

NAVY! its a classic colour and you can vary the accessories each season - orange/ green/ red/ pink/ tan/ depending on what colour is 'on trend' Grin as they say!
It will look great with tan boots and bag and bring a splash of colour in with a scarf.
What colour hair do you have??
