Black tie...will I be the only one in long?

Basically we have a black tie thing coming up shortly and over the years the black tie events I have been to have become more cocktail dresses - however due to £ and two children later the dress I have that fits/looks good is long, but I'm not sure if I am going to look wrong - it's not a ball just a dinner that's states black tie - I know no one going so can't ask and it's a new event so no idea of the norm here? But I know traditional black tie long dresses are fine but just having a wobble - any advice would be great...

What colour/ style is it? How old are you? I sometimes prefer a full length version as it can look much more glamourous and cocktail dresses, look like, cocktail dresses.

I'm in my 30's will be one of the youngest by 20 years - I found a link to the dress I've had it years and will wear a jacket over it - but if maybe too much....

Although I'm a 8- 10 i don't look like her! Smaller, not as tanned should have hunted for a different picture

Beautiful dress. I think you will be fine wearing that. It's simple - not too fussy/fancy. I would assume that the fact it's dinner and also you are going to be one of the youngest, that many ladies will 'go long'.

I think that's lovely. Go for it. It's always better to feel over rather than underdressed!

Thank you I feel a lot better, I bought it years ago in NY in the sale and have a black jacket by the same designer that was expensive at the time but been an absolute staple so can always keep that on if needed -

Wear it!! I went to a black tie do recently and ended up wearing a cocktail dress and felt really under dressed! Long dresses are very cool and not enough people get properly dressed up these days!!

It's great for black tie.

We go to a black tie event every year and I always opt for a long dress. The range of what is worn has got wider over the years and now there is anything from long gowns to cocktail dresses, to people who look like they are off to a wedding in a pretty evening top and smart black trousers.

But I always choose long as it makes me feel fab. And your dress is a classy design. I don't think you can go wrong with that one.

Dh is ex-army and black tie is always long dress - you can't go wrong.

There was an outdoors event where the dress code was relaxed due to bad weather - trouser suits were allowed. I don't wear trousers so opted for the long dress option with a warm long coat. Those of us who stuck with long dress were the warmest. See can't go wrong!
