Glycolic Acid peel

This was mentioned in a thread very recently but I can't find the thread. I'm looking at a product on bravuralondon, a glycolic acid one. It gets great reviews but I'm half thinking that the reviews are bogus cos they all seem to be written in the same style with no typos etc... or am I being paranoid?

Come and tell me if you've tried these please and are they any good :)

Thanks Kiss, I might give them a try.

OP, read the Sizzlers thread, from what I remember 50% is v strong, best to start gentler.

I'm a sizzler! I love my bravura 30% GA. Just remember to not wash your face or cleanse first (changes ph levels) and use a decent sunscreen afterwards (even in winter)

cedge · 29/10/2012 15:38

lol, i enjoy it : ) sad but true

FunBagFreddie · 29/10/2012 15:59

That bravura stuff, do you just apply it, wash it off and job done? I'm completely ignorant, sorry. Blush

I've looked online to people who do it in my area, but they're all quite far away. Got a really busy few weeks coming up at work, so no chance of getting anything done. Would I be a mentalist if I did it myself?

ggirl · 29/10/2012 16:00

no have a go , loads of us sizzlers did

just follow the instructions and wait till your face is dry for 30 mins before you sizzle

ggirl · 29/10/2012 16:02

you need to neutralise it with soda bicarb , you can buy it from them or get your own
word of warning though, there's has a lid that takes the patience of a saint to remove , so remove before you sizzle

I'm not sure what sort of acid I need, I've got a couple of sun spots, wrinkles, acne scars and some horrible open and enlarged pores that I really hate. I'm even wondering if the Salicylic Acid would be best from reading the descriptions.

Anyway, sorry, will not hijack this thread anymore!

FunBagFreddie · 29/10/2012 16:17

Thanks for advice btw!

cedge · 29/10/2012 16:20

FunBagFreddie - try retin a, or a series of lactic/salicylic acid peels over a few months. These should improve things.

digerd · 29/10/2012 16:24

I watched the " 10 years younger" series on TV, a few years ago and one 43 year old had a very old wrinkly skin, and had the strongest acid peel. I realised I couldn't do that, as it caused a deep ( not sure how deep) peeling of her skin after 2 weeks, which had turned brown, died, and fell off in patches. It was horrific to watch. But the results looked fantastic afterwards.
What we couldn't see, she complained of, was the scarring the acid had caused, that she covered with make-up.
The glycholic peel is not the same as that acid peel.

I tried the glycholic peel but my skin had a bad reaction after the first treatment, and discontinued it.

FunBagFreddie · 29/10/2012 16:26

What about the creams and serums that contain these acids? Are they any good or do you really need to do the peel?

cedge · 29/10/2012 16:30

You can improve your skin slowly by using certain creams/lotions - but results take time, generally 6 months or more. You can get Retin A on prescription from a GP, or look for glycolic acid products with more than 10% glycolic acid.
It depends on your age and what you want to acheive with what you should use really.

FunBagFreddie · 29/10/2012 16:35

OK, thanks cedge. I'm going to have a go with the 30% lactic acid peel for my first time I think, just to be on the safe side, as I have sensitive skin.

When people call it sizzling, does it actually make a sizzling sound?

cedge · 29/10/2012 16:42

No, there is no sizzling sound :) You will just notice your skin tingle after a few minutes or possibly before. Just follow the instructions and do a skin test first to ensure your not allergic. Lactic acid is a nice peel though, evens up your skin tone well after a few times.

lubeybooby · 29/10/2012 17:29

I do get a sizzling sound when i stick my bicarb on, you can see it fizz too it's ace :o

cedge · 30/10/2012 12:22

I just wash it off with water!

vit15 · 24/11/2015 21:36
