Is it silk or satin pillow slips for helping prevent wrinkles? And DOES it help?!

Just wondering if it's true that sleeping on a silk/satin (which?) pillow case helps prevent wrinkles? Anyone got one and feels it works?
I'd like to 'train' myself to sleep on my back really cos my face is so squashed and wrinkled in the morning from being buried in my pillow, and these days it doesn't seem to bounce back! Shock
But thinking I will naturally turn sideways in my sleep, maybe a silk/satin pillowcase is the next best thing?
Any advice....

it's silk, and when I tried it, no it didn't help. I think quite a few other people said it did though!

It's silk and it's made no difference to my face at all. Feels lovely, but does sweet FA.

I find the best thing is sleeping without a pillow. Less chance of scrunching your face up!

Pinot · 29/10/2012 15:14

Christ cedge that is DEDICATION.

ggirl · 29/10/2012 15:16

i tried a silk to try and stop my hair looking ridiculous in the am, didn't work

cedge · 29/10/2012 15:16

Lol, i actually find i get better sleep without a pillow. I think the human body was designed to sleep better without them. IMO double pillows etc probably cause many of our neck and back complaints!

moi aussi, twinny.

I'm still Rik Parfitt dans le matin :(

The only way to stop pillow wrinkles/creases, is to sleep on your back, but that is soooo difficult, if not impossible for most people. You may not get them. My mother and sister didn,t/don't, but I do.

The wrinkles are caused by the fabric of pillow itself creasing up, so the best pillow case is a tight stretchable one that stays smooth no matter how much you toss and turn in the night. If you can find one. Don't know why they haven't been invented. I have a flannelette one which doesn't crease much and have a large pillow in it to fill the case as tight as possible.

ps. Sorry just read that your face is already squashed and wrinkled in the morning. A firm pillow too, by the way . No feather pillows.
I and SIL used to have just one down the side and i used to pummle mine, kneed it , hang upside down to get the flesh and blood back to it to plump it out.
Now I,m older and don't care and SIL has permanent wrinkles , so " ce la vie" attitude now for both of us, and health is a much more important topic of conversation.

Neighbour 83 hasn't a wrinkle anywhere grrrrrrr

OneHandFlapping · 29/10/2012 16:13

Another one here who bought a silk pillow slip after it was recommended on here (baaa!). It did nothing for my morning wrinkles.

Pinot · 29/10/2012 16:21

Ah, yes I agree a good firm pillow is a help. I have a new memory foam one - v good.

linspins · 30/10/2012 20:58

Digerd, wasn't sure if you were talking about a pillow or your face when you said "pummel mine, kneed it, hang upside down...to plump it out"!! Grin

Does a firm pillow help though when it's your face that is the squidgy thing? I reckon I'm going to have to grin and bear it...or one more thing to feel grumpy about, seems to be lots of that recently. oh dear.

I always lie on my left side and I avoid getting a crease down the left side of my face near my eye by using a 'frownie' - just smooth the skin, apply your frownie and it stops the crease from forming.

greyvix · 30/10/2012 23:58

Intrigued by the frown. What is it?

greyvix · 30/10/2012 23:59

Frownie, not frown.

UnrequitedSkink · 31/10/2012 00:04

I've got a a full mouth that squashes in on itself when I sleep on my side so I get two vertical lines on my top lip. No power on earth could make me sleep on my back all night though.

doublenougat · 31/10/2012 11:42

frownies are, essentially, little pieces of self adhesive paper that you can apply to forehead, between eyebrows or around nasolabial lines. you put them beore bed, leave them on overnight and they help, over time, to smooth out lines. clearly not as effective as botox but no side effects and they are cheap!
