Out damned spot..

I have got a humungous spot on my jaw. It's not got a head (sorry but it's relevant) and on the surface is just normal red spot size. But underneath there's this bloody agony lump which is about the size of a 50p piece.
What can I put on it? Not bothered about the actual blemish but I am bothered about the fact that it hurts. A lot.

Drawing paste - get from a chemist. It is magnesium sulphate and should draw out a head from your spot.

You could also try holding a hot flannel to the spot to draw it to a head.

Ugh I get them. I put toothpaste on them which helps a little

I have a similar one, on my lower cheek parallel with my nose. Fecking hurts. It's like 10 spots have merged into one mega one. I don't get spots often but when u do they're humdingers.

I squeezed mine this morning. God it hurt, and I almost stopped and then it went. It's gone down a bit but there defo more. Will have another go tonight maybe then pop some sudocreme on it.

If you are getting them more often now, it's worth going to your GP and asking for Duac gel. Marvellous stuff.

I wold wrap an ice cube in a flannel and hold it on until the swelling goes down.

It's just a miracle worker. Very effective on adult acne (which is what we're talking about really if the spots seem hormonal/age-related, rather than you suddenly not washing your face much or using make-up you're allergic to, etc), but afaik, prescription-only. Gets rid of the spots like nothing I've ever bought over the counter.

Whatever you do, don't squeeze headless spots like these. All you will do is cause it to implode beneath the skin which will infect the pore deep down = scarring.

You either need mag sulphate to draw it out or, even better, leave it and it will self drain. If it's really big/painful/unsightly then see your gp as you may need antibiotics. Ibuprofen will help reduce the inflammation.

Sudden changes in skin condition are likely to be hormonal - spots on jawline most definitely so. Make a gp appt ASAP and get something on prescription, nothing you can buy over the counter (with the exception of benzoyl peroxide) will help significantly.

Benzoyl peroxide bleaches them and helps a lot towards preventing pimples. 2.5% strength.

Does this Duac gel work on teenagers? My son is just getting spottier and spottier. He uses all the clearasil stuff but they just keep coming. He is only 12 so it might be a long road. Thanks and sorry to hijack.

I find freederm gel, applied approximately hourly is the only thing that helps with the horrid headless lump type spots. I've tried everything short of roaccutane and it seems to be the only thing that reduces the painful swelling, probably as the main ingredient is an anti-inflammatory (which is what makes it different from other OTC spot creams). If I follow the instructions it does sod all, but applying it hourly seems to help.

I saw on an other thread the other day a poster says a make up artist had told them that bursting an anidan liquid tablet and putting the liquid on the spot takes the pain and swelling out of spots!
