should i have my hair cut now I'm 30?

I currently have long dark hair. When its straight it is about two inches away from the small of my back. It is naturally wavy/curly so slightly shorter day to day.

Since turning 30 this year people keep telling me I''ll need to get it cut soon, apparently long hair isn't allowed any more?

I love it long and love how versatile it is but don't want to look like a fool.

Opinions please?

Definitely! Time for a short bubble perm and blue rinse!

Woozley · 23/10/2012 14:33

As soon as I got into my late 20s, when people asked my age they seemed to feel the need to add 'oh, you don't look it'.

Yeah me too, I agree. Also when people asked my age, from mid twenties on people seemed to expect me to lie about it. People say "Aren't you supposed to say you are 21?" Makes me feel like shouting from the rooftops "I AM 37 WHICH IS DEFINITELY...NOT...OLD!"

BeauNeidel · 23/10/2012 14:44

I don't like waist length (or longer) hair either, but that's on anyone irrespective of age! I just turned 30, I had my longish hair cut into a bob and I love it. Much more flattering than the long layers I have been sporting for donkeys!

Woozley · 23/10/2012 14:50

I like have long hair, maybe as I wasn't allowed to have it very long as a kid and always had it cut into a bob or no longer than shoulder length. It satisfies my inner Maid Marian Grin.

It depends on the person, but sometimes a short, safe, easy-to-wear cut can be very ageing.

BunnyLeBOOwski · 23/10/2012 14:57

What is with that attitude??

Have a kid/turn 30 and submit to sensible frumpdom.

I know so many young women with dreary bobs and awful crops because of this thinking.

My hair is past bra fastening length. It's in great condition (Thank you coconut oil) and looks fab. I wear it straight, wavy, curly, in a messy bun, a beehive, victory rolls, Mad Men updos.

Why would I swap variety for an identikit "Mum" do you can do nothing with Confused

Sorry for brief post up thread. Mning is frowned upon in work.

I'm in complete agreement with all the above posts. I don't want a hair cut, and wouldn't have one based on a few comments.

I was surprised by the amount of women who thought I should though. The men on my team didn't really have an opinion. What was odd was no-one could give an answer as to why.

I have had long hair since my Ds was born (12yo) but in the past have had it very short (pixie crop) and everything between the two.

It might take an age to dry but I still love it.

I had mine cut because it was manky and split endy and thin. If it was lovely like yours I'd have kept it till i was 60Grin

confuddledDOTcom · 24/10/2012 01:19

Did anyone else get "you're going to have to cut it now you've got a baby"? I loved it when I could answer "Why? I didn't cut it with the older two"!

ToastedTeacakes · 24/10/2012 13:40

Oh dear OP, if you feel this way at 30, what are you gonna resign yourself to by 40?

This hair-cutting-age-thing is complete codswallop.
I still plan upon growing it long in old age so that I can achieve my old lady super bun, or my long neat plait.

Really though, cut your hair if you think it will enhance you, not because of your age.
As an aside: I like long hair on men, regardless their age, so long as they don't wear it in a ponytail.

carmenelectra · 24/10/2012 14:20

Is 30 now considered old then?!

I'm 41 and have long hair and have intention of getting it cut. I have it coloured and wear to straight or curly. I love long hair.

So long as it is not long and grey with a centre parting like a witch.

Imo most people I know who get the hair cut when they get 'older' look like frumps.

kissyfur · 24/10/2012 14:22

I've still got long hair and i'm 35. I'd never cut it short no matter how old I get! Some people do talk rubbish! Don't listen to em Smile

MikeLitorisBites · 24/10/2012 18:22

Toasted I dont plan on having my hair cut. I was only asking for opinions.

I am debating on going lighter though. Or is that too much hassle.

Have a look at pics of when you were around 10 and use that as guide on how light you should go as that will be a natural look with your colouring.

MikeLitorisBites · 24/10/2012 22:23

My hair has a reddish tint to it and when I was 10 it would have been called auburn.

I'vr been various shades of red over the years but haven't dyed it for a long time.

The "lights" in your hair at that age you should go for.
