Have lost a bit of weight recently and am revamping my wardrobe slowly. I'm currently looking for a dress to wear for Xmas parties but don't want all black. Am also trying to get away from my old M&S "mumsy" look which was designed to cover all the lumps and bumps!

Please be kind if you don't like as this is my first thread in here!

That's the second time I've recommended it. Might have to try it myself at this rate :)

Teeb · 22/10/2012 20:46

Oh I like the red dress milkybar it's a lovely colour. I'd just be a bit concerned about the length of it, I like to keep a bit of mystery to my knees these days.

annieshaf · 22/10/2012 21:00

Wow
Thank you so much for such a quick response. I think the consensus is too mumsy then.

Thank you also to everyone who has made other recommendations. Its really helpful as I am so used to being restricted to shopping for something to "cover up" rather than "show off"

Teeb, I know what you mean by that - although I dont actually have that much of a social life to have lots and lots of parties to go to it is usually the same people.

I am 43, 5'4" and a size 8 but very small on top - one of the downsides of loosing weight unfortunately and I dont think I could fill the one you recommend from Asos although it is gorgeous. I am only an A/B cup.

Wonderstuff, I love the colour of that one and the detailing but I dont think the shape would look good on me.

The thing I like about it is the shape and the fact that it is not all black. I do like floral prinks but not with too many colours. Am not keen on the trend for visible zips though.

Quite like the red wrap one Themilkybarisonme but its not available in my size and not sure if I would feel more like its a work dress.

Going to have a look at the Asos website now and expand my horizons a little.

Don't be out off by the sizing, if you're near a river island pop in and see what sizes they have in stock in store. It's also in blue. I'm impressed with your workday décolletage if that's work clothes for you Grin

Honestly, I'm not on commission, I don't know why I'm pushing so hard for it!

Themilkybarisonme · 22/10/2012 23:29

The one I reallyi like from there at the moment is this
www.riverisland.com/women/dresses/branded-dresses/black-sequin-trim-Forever-Unique-dress--625872
But it's much more expensive.

Woozley · 23/10/2012 00:20

I like the Karen Millen one best, AnnieShaf. The River Island one is lovely but looks a bit arse skimming in length.

DamonSalvatoreIsMyLoveSlave · 23/10/2012 19:11

I like the Karen Millen one best too, but I always like their dresses. I do think the cross over one is really nice too though and good value for money if you want to spend less.

mameulah · 23/10/2012 19:18

Have you looked on Monsoon? I think that most of the dresses on there look beautiful and stylish. Well done for losing weight!

PerryCombover · 23/10/2012 19:27

Like that dress milkybar
Utterly Ming the merciless

PerryCombover · 23/10/2012 19:27

Am I the only one that thinks Karen Millan is worn by wannabe wags?

Woozley · 23/10/2012 19:32

I don't know who Karen Millen is worn by, but I thought the dress linked to would suit the OP and seemed to be her style judging by the other things she linked to. It wouldn't suit me at all. It would suit someone who is 43 and petite.

PerryCombover · 23/10/2012 21:20

I think it's generally a really flashy Footballer's wives type store

PerryCombover · 23/10/2012 21:30

What about this?

PerryCombover · 23/10/2012 21:40

Or this

PerryCombover · 24/10/2012 01:37

mango

PerryCombover · 24/10/2012 01:53

fab

justbogoffnow · 24/10/2012 02:07

I would look at dresses from Reiss and Hobbs. They usually do some great structured pieces.

Themilkybarisonme · 24/10/2012 07:55

Exactly perry ! I watch a lot of sci fi. I'm comfortable with futuristic sequinned shoulders.

NotAnIdiotHonest · 24/10/2012 08:29

Love that Mango sequinned one!

OneHandFlapping · 24/10/2012 12:56

THat Mango sequinned one says it is 53 cm long! Or 224 inches!

Either too short or too long, is you ask me.

shockers · 26/10/2012 19:09

I like Great Plains for dresses.

nilbyname · 26/10/2012 19:18

op you seem to be fixed on black or black and white.

The ASOS body con aztec one is horrendous, do not touch it.

The sparkly one with the scoop back that someone else linked too was lovely, and would give you a big "wow" factor.

What celeb style do you like?

I thinkKaren Millen and Coast have "nice" dresses that sometimes can look a bit flash but always to me say PRIM.

LOVE this

this would be great belted and with gold heels, or black opaques and black shoe boots

digerd · 26/10/2012 19:42

If that is a photo of you in this dress, I think it is lovely , but you can not accessorize, to make it look a different dress, so can only be worn once.
