Q&A about Skincare for anti-ageing with Harley Street dermatologist, Dr Sam Bunting - ANSWERS BACK

ShadeMumsnet · 22/10/2012 10:59

We're running a Q&A this week about skincare and anti-ageing with Dr Sam Bunting and beauty blogger Lila B (Glamplusforty).

As a cosmetic dermatologist with a busy private practice in Harley Street, Dr Sam Bunting's patients who are aged between 25 and 64, come to her with a variety of concerns from rosacea to pigmentation, but the overwhelming majority are seeking to combat the signs of ageing (45%) or acne (40%).

The Q&A is sponsored by Philips RéAura, the UK's first laser skin rejuvenation device for women to use in their own homes. It is based on Fraxel® technology and is the first time that women are able to achieve professional level results in the comfort of their own home.

ReAura is aimed at women experiencing signs of ageing and wishing to have a rejuvenated appearance. Dr Sam Bunting would recommend women of all ages from late twenties upwards wishing to reduce visible pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles and an uneven skin tone to use Philips ReAura. Lila B (beauty blogger) has trialled ReAura so can answer your questions on her personal experience with it.

Send your questions before the end of Friday 26 Oct, and you will be entered into a draw to win a Philips ReAura worth £800. We'll link to Dr Sam's answers on Thursday 8 Nov.

Hello,

I have a question regarding milia spots. I have many of these spots ( I'm guessing about 30-40) on my face, mostly under my eyes. They have spread onto my forehead, nose and above my top lip. I have been to several cosmotologists and had treatment in which they pop and squeeze the spots. It's painful and it doesn't seem to help.
Is there any treatment I can get which will help me get rid of the spots permantely?

Thank you.

TiredMule · 22/10/2012 12:08

Hi,
How can I reduce the size of the pores on and around my nose? They aren't massive but bigger than anywhere else on my face and they tend to fill up and become white heads. I'm 30 and have combination skin and it makes buying products, especially anti aging products harder as they tend to be for dryer skin, is there anything I can do to even out the type of skin I have?
Thank you

IslaValargeone · 22/10/2012 12:27

What would you recommend for tiny broken veins on cheeks.
I have started using an SPF 40 before applying makeup to minimise further damage, but wondered if there was an effective treatment to improve their appearance?

snailsontour · 22/10/2012 12:43

Hi There,

My question is about Hyperpigmentation, the dreaded Sun Spots. I have a number of these spots on the side of my face, and also on the backs of my hands. I always use sunscreen to try and prevent them worsening, but are there any topical treatments that will remove them?

Thank You x

Hello,

What kind of anti-ageing products should you use if you are in your early thirties but your skin is still spot-prone? I find lots of products sit very heavily on my skin and make me break out.

Thank you.

cazza40 · 22/10/2012 13:09

Hello

I have some chickenpox scars on my face from when I had chickenpox as a child. At now 40 plus is there anything I can do to reduce or improve their appearance or is it just too late ?

Many thanks for any advice you can give me.

SchrodingersMew · 22/10/2012 15:19

Hello,

I have really uneven skin tone, my cheeks and nose get very red and the colour never seems to fade. Is there anything I can do to make this improve or is it permanant? I am 21.

Many thanks.

worldgonecrazy · 22/10/2012 16:25

I have a bright red nose under my make up, even when I haven't got a cold or been drinking alcohol. Is there anything I can do to treat this?

ZombieTribble · 22/10/2012 17:32

Hi,

I've got oily skin but with uneven skin tone, in fact I look like a spotty teenager. What on earth can I do to improve the situation?

Also, is it a necessity to use spf products on my eyes?

Choclatespread · 22/10/2012 17:40

Hi, I would like to know at what age should I start to use Anti Ageing creams?

Also I have oily/combination skin. Is there a product I can use to give my face a glowing look? It's always looking dull & tired!
Thank you

Trills · 22/10/2012 17:54

Hi, I have a question.

ShadeMumsnet?! :o

Trills · 22/10/2012 18:01

Not laughing, just smiling at the unusual name. It brightens my day.

(and perhaps slightly suspicious that you are actually YetAnotherHelenMumsnet but decided to pick something more interesting)

skandi1 · 22/10/2012 18:29

Hi

I suffer from rosacea. I wonder whether the Phillips ReAura would be suitable for those suffering from rosacea?

If it is (which would be great), would it also help with redness? I suppose it's wishful thinking given the ReAura already irons out wrinkles and helps with age spots.

Thank you.

Linda98 · 22/10/2012 18:43

Hi - I have a dark patch of telangiectasia on one of my cheeks - I suffer from rosacea - will the ReAura help with lessening the redness? I really hope the answer is yes !!

KatieScarlett2833 · 22/10/2012 18:51

Disregarding all the hype, what actually works in terms of anti-ageing that can be bought over the counter?

Iceflower · 22/10/2012 18:54

I would like to know how to diminish age spots//pigmentation. I have skin that tans easily and never burn, so foolishly wasn't very careful about sun protection. As I've got older, patches if pigmentation have appeared on my upper cheekbones.

Have you any advice on how to get rid of them?

TheMysteryCat · 22/10/2012 19:28

I have plaque psoriasis covering my face, legs and arms. I use double base gel and anti redness cream, and can't take methotrexate or any medication. As well as it being painful and unsightly, I am concerned about the impact on my skin as it ages. Even when patches reduce in plaques, they are still red and flake. Any ideas on products or tips to help? I am breast feeding so no medications, thanks.

IfYouSeeMeSayHello · 22/10/2012 20:00

Hi
I am 37 and while I have always had ok skin, I suddenly feel like I am looking a bit ragged round the edges. What would you advise to make me glow again, before it is too late?
Thanks!

Lizel · 22/10/2012 20:31

Hi, I was just wondering what the re:aura process would be if you are using a retinoid cream or what else would you use with reaura regards to skincare.
Thank you

scripsi · 22/10/2012 21:08

my question is what would the ultimate anti-ageing topicals regime be, morning and night?
Also in addition to laser advances like re:aura, what are the next big things in anti-ageing non-invasive procedures?

birthdaypanic · 22/10/2012 21:40

Hi,
I am mid 50's my skin looks tired and needs firming. I am good at cleansing, moisturising in the morning but not at night.
What is the best treatment to rejuvenate my skin (can't afford face lift).

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 22/10/2012 21:43

My q is the same as Snails ^. I have dark sun spots that nothing seems to fade. I would love them to fade.
I'm now very careful about wearing sunscreen every day under foundation but I have oily/combination skin and find unless I exfoliate religiously I get huge puss filled spots on my chin. I never had any spots as a teen!
Can you recommend anything to fade these brown patches without clogging up my skin? Thank you!

cocolepew · 22/10/2012 23:03

Hi, do you think that drinking water has any bearing on your skin? Thank you Smile

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 23/10/2012 05:16

Hi. I have a deep pore/hole on my cheek which won't go away. Will the reaura help with this?
