Can anyone recommend a good hairdresser in London for CURLY hair?

I've been on maternity leave for nearly a year and look a complete state Sad

Need to act quick before the rot sets in, but going to the haidresser is such a lottery because no one ever seems to understand curly hair. Unfortunately haven't found anyone I like since my Austrian goth hairdresser went awol 4 years ago. Anyone got any recommendations in London?

Where in Surrey? I am about to move there and need a new hairdresser.

hoxtonchick · 12/04/2006 22:10

ok, bought paul mitchell & elastocurl stuff today, will report back!

themothership · 19/04/2006 21:23

Finally went for my haircut on Sat at Identity UK - didn't have Tony, but got a very good cut and they are sooo nice in there! So, for the first time in ages, I actually look half-decent Wink

Where did you buy Paul Mitchell's conditioner - I can't find it anywhere.

hooray! so glad you had a good haircut, i was worrying it would be crap & it would be my fault!

i found the paul mitchell stuff in a salon on the corner of kingsland rd & dalston lane - opposite barclay's (they have elastocurl too). it doesn't seem to suit my hair that well though. would you like the one i bought? either CAT me your address & i'll send it, or maybe we could meet up with the children for coffee & curly hair chat :).

Have bought John Frieda Frizz Ease shamppo, conditioner and spray to try out. I think I can notice a different - only one comment from another and that was a 7 year old Shock

satine · 23/04/2006 20:53

Anniemac - the same thing happened to my hair, and I panicked and had it cut really short. Now that it's growing back, (and my dd is almost 2)it's getting back to how it used to be, thank god. I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't had the old hair cut off, though.
I'm currently using the curls rock styling stuff from Bedhead, which is ok. I tried the new John Frieda shampoo and conditioner for curly hair, but it didn't seem to do much and wasn't really conditioning enough. I like Kerastase shampoo & conditioner, when I can afford it!
That Ouidad range looks fab, fishie. My cousin is a stewardess for Virgin and often goes to the States - I am going to ask her to get some for me next time she flies to the US, shall I get her to get some for you too? Then we won't have to pay tax and you only have to pay the postage from Sussex! Anyone else fancy trying it?

hoxtonchick · 23/04/2006 20:57

ooooh yes please satine, that's really kind of you & would be fab. will have a fiddle on the ouidad website to see which kind would be best.

i quite like the new john frieda shampoo & conditioner. the umberto gianni curl friends stuff is the most moisturising i think though.

satine · 23/04/2006 21:04

I'll give my cousin a call and find out when she's next going to NY - from what I can see, you can only buy the range from the Ouidad salons or by mail order. Luckily, my cousin lives to shop, and relishes a challenge! So either put your order on here, or email me (mayheads at iaconnect.co.uk) and you can either send a cheque, once I have the stuff and know what postage wil be, or pay me through Paypal - or if you can get to Windsor, Camberley, Salisbury or Chichester you could collect it in person!!

Anniemac - are you sure your hair is coarse? I used to think mine was, because it was so bloody mad and curly and I thought fine hair would lie flat and limp but a hairdresser pointed out that actually the individual hairs were quite fine and soft, not coarse and wiry and it's changed the products I buy now. The Ouidad website has some great info about curly hair.

hoxtonchick · 24/04/2006 09:59

mine's like yours satine, really quite fine under the curly madness!

it'd be easiest to paypal you money if that's ok. am at work now (boo, hiss), but will let you know later which stuff i'd like.

satine · 24/04/2006 10:02

I'll go and call my cousin now to find out when she's going to NY! Hope this stuff is good - if I get everything they suggest it'll be a hundred bucks! Still, that's much less than a posh haircut, I guess. Does anyone else want any? Or will you wait to see whether hoxtonchick and I have wasted our money first?! Grin

The best thing I have ever used is called Applepectin mousse and they sell it to trade (Sally hair supplies in Charing X Rd)as well as the public. My mate who is an ex hairdresser recommended it to me and it really separated my curls. Only problem is that I rarely go into central London now so I ran out.

hoxtonchick · 24/04/2006 20:07

hi satine, i've been looking at the ouidad website for hours! if your cousin could get me some botanical boost, clear control & the curl taming collection that would be fabulous. it seems to come to $71 which i daren't convert to pounds :o. but will of course paypal you!!

satine · 25/04/2006 11:18

No problem! My cousin isn't at home at the moment, she must be off in some exotic location but I've left a message asking to give me a call when she's back, so I'll let you know when she can get the stuff.

Identity UK are excellent for my curly hair - They are really friendly and helpful. I have incredibly curly hair and have never had such a good haircut in my life, they really know what they are doing unlike loads of other hairdressers I have been to. They gave me some great products to use at home as well - Hairmix and KMS that really work for me. I see Tif at Identity UK and she is not that expensive either, about £35 for a cut and blowdry. Their number is 020 7729 7990. Hope this helps!

Brees80 · 19/06/2019 09:13

Hey MagicGenie. Are you still using your hairdresser you’ve mentioned in this thread? If yes whereabouts in Surrey are they based? Thank you

LenkaW · 15/10/2019 14:08

Hi, I've found this post in search for a hairdresser for curly hair... then realised it's ages old. But on the off chance, could I have the number of your hair dresser pls?
