Just received an item I bought on eBay and it stinks to high heaven :-(

It smells so bad (despite being BNWT) that I have left it in the garden! It's an intense "charity shop" aroma that is actually making me heave.

I have contacted the seller complaining about it but not entirely sure what will happen as a result.

Anyone else had a similar experience and care to share their (hopefully positive) outcome?

Oh it was ages ago, one of the 'naturals' fabric conditioners :)

I bought a dress once, OMG did it ever smell of stale fag smoke. Couldn't do much about it, she had said she was a smoker, but this really was something else. It was like it had been worn in pub every night for a month in the "bad old days" when smoking in pubs was allowed. I'm an ex-smoker, but seriously I've never smelt anything like it EVER.

Got a dress the other day from eBay and it was so fusty. It smelt like it had been put in storage after a night out and never cleaned. Will cost £7.60 to dry clean (dry clean only dress) so fingers crossed it Lifts the smell.

I ensure everything is clean but wouldn't dream of febreezing it. I hate the smell of it. Why not wash or air it? So much nicer and fresher.

BelinaTheChicken · 12/10/2012 22:09

If it was BNWT then they couldn't wash it without destroying the tags though, so febreeze was probably their only option. Sucks though.

I've had clothes sent to me that I swear a puff of cigarette smoke came out of the bag when I opened it. And I'm a smoker, so it wasn't just me being sensitive

I received a reply from the seller today who was so embarrassed that she refunded all my money and told me to keep the dress or do with it as I will. Her reply was so genuinely remorseful that I feel awful for raising it with her.

So am going to pay her again for the dress minus postage costs to cover laundry - does that sound reasonable?

Very reasonable x

Yes that sounds very fair. Hopefully she has learned a lesson.

I received a dress for DD today that was supposedly 'new without tags'. Is it bollocks. I would have been embarrassed to put it in a hand me down bag let alone sell it.

Quite clearly been through the wash a number of times and yet still stinks of smoke.

Am incensed! No response from seller yet.

trixymalixy · 13/10/2012 21:23

I bought a pair of shoes for DD that we're supposedly in good condition. A stench escaped from the bag when I opened it and I just immediately binned them. Why would you sell something in that condition, why?

I think you're doing a nice thing ujjayi, by giving her the money back.
