Tangle Teaser brush - worth the money?

I have a DD with almost bottom length hair, she refuses to get it cut but screams blue murder when I brush it.

Are these brushes worth £10+?

I mean, do they work? If they do its well worth £10.

It made no difference at all to my dds raggy mops. In fact one of these gets used more than the TT.

They are a godsend. We've lost one, on 2 occasions, (so we've lost 2 then) and i panicked. Can't live without it now.
It is expensive for what it is, but in our house it's a essential.

Vagaceratops · 10/10/2012 11:14

Love mine - use it on both my younger DC's curly hair.

squeaver · 10/10/2012 11:16

Yes it's well worth the money. I also have Shea butter cream from the hairdresser for when things get really bad (like the holidays when it's not tied up every day for school).

However, honestly, I think you need to sort out the length of your dd's hair. Just taking a couple of inches off would make a huge difference.

Used the tangle teaser with mixed success. Yes it got through most of dds waist length hair but still left smaller knots and was hard to grip due to its shape. Tried the denman tangle tamer and this was so much better! Bought it in local sainsburys!

Beaverfeaver · 12/10/2012 02:52

I just bought one as notice my hair was starting to brake.

Find it excellent

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/10/2012 07:08

No. OK for brushing the top layers but doesn't begin to go through knots underneath, even when hair is separated out. OK for fine hair, but useless for thick.

ComradeJing · 12/10/2012 07:25

I have three. A travel one for when we go away, a flower shaped one that someone gave DD and is quite difficult to grip (wouldn't get this one again) and a normal one that lives in the shower for me.

I have thick and wavy to curly hair and it's great. DD has quite thin Shirly Temple curls that frizz and knot at the drop of a hat. and it's fab on her too.

However... I only ever use it on either of us when we have conditioner or detangler in our hair. DD shrieks if I try to use it on her very easily knotted dry hair.

GirlYouMakeMeTongueTied · 12/10/2012 07:52

No good here. DD has thick hair, only seems to get to the top layer.

Himalaya · 12/10/2012 08:01

Yes it works for us. Did resent paying £10 for a plastic brush though, but couldn't find any generic ones.

HipHopOpotomus · 12/10/2012 09:36

DD has mega corkscrews. The Tangle Teazer is OK, though the Tangle Tamer (also stocked by Boots - it is pink but has a handle) is even better IMO. It has longer bristles, and is better for very thick hair.

instantfamily · 12/10/2012 09:46

worth every penny.

Using it with four sets of quite different hair: thick and wavy, short spaghetti, tangly, dry with tendency to break, etc. I don't know the other brushes but everyone I recommended this to or gave as a gift LOVED it. Kids over to play have requested their mums to buy it because it hurts less and has that awful pink color.

Also start brushing at the bottom and then move further up as it said in the "instructions".

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/10/2012 11:01

that flower one is from sainsburys, we were also given one and it's absolutely rubbish, impossible to get hold of. even with the tangle teazer thing you would need to section the hair if it's thick. (i don't understand people saying the bristles only got through the top layer... of course they do, they're only half an inch long).

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 12/10/2012 11:01

agree, instant, you also have to work out the tangles from the bottom up.

BardOfBarking · 12/10/2012 13:44

Agree with the 'only the top layer' comments. My dd (10) has ridiculously thick hair, she brushes it religiously with the tangle tamer but when I go to separate it for plaiting there are still massive tangles underneath.

fedupofnamechanging · 12/10/2012 14:42

It is £8.05 on amazon and has free delivery. Am going to try this for both me and dd. Fed up with tugging on my skull, trying to get the knots out. Keep giving myself a headache!
