Are expensive shampoos and conditioners really worth it ?

I ve just had my highlightes done I love it! But I m so tired of the hard sell from the colourist and stylist regarding the shampoo - they were both pushing me to buy shampoo and conditioner that cose neurally as much as having my hair done all over again... But saying you need less product etc so it s better in the long run as better for your hair and pocket. We're they right ? Will my highlights run down the drain if I use champ and cond from off the supermarket shelf ?

I use Aveda shampoo & conditioner for coloured hair, and each bottle lasts me about 6 months (medium length hair). It is expensive, but I do think it keeps my colour shinier for longer than others I've tried, and using it feels like a little bit of luxury every time I use it...

I use Aveda and think it's worth it. It is an expensive habit, but prefer it to supermarket.

Which product was it? Good to check if others like it.

It was kerastase - I have to admit in the past I have tried all ranges and brands ...... I do use a treatment masque regularly and take good care of it generally, however more recently I ve been buying stuff from
Boots etc and found little difference - except when I go to the salon....what usually happens is they start chatting then ask what I m using in my hair at the moment.... When I mention Aussie miracle .... Which I really like and find good... Cue a sharp intake of breath and an explainarion on how the salts in all the high street shampoos will do me no good in the long run. It gets frankly tedious after having the same conversation with the colourist/ stylist/ junior .... I ve started to feel it a more of a hard sell than anything.
I have tried aveda - and I must possible be the only person in the world who is actually allergic to it !!! Serious skin and scalp rash to both the colour and products!!
I do love kerastase products - treatments and nectar thermique especially and I do find them beneficial - I m just not convinced that the shampoos especially are that much better than the High street equivalent to justify the spend and wondering if anyone else finds that too I suppose .

Yes the hard sell can be off-putting. Normal stuff is going to harm your hair. I can see why you'd find that irritating!

I'm sold on Aveda now and when I go back to Pantene on a day I run out my hair feels yuck. So I do stick with it for results only.

You could do one bottle then go back to Aussie. But that hard sell wouldn't convince me either.

Not sure about shampoo but my Aveda conditioner is well worth the money. In fact I am off to stock up on it today

I use a low sulphate and no silicone range which is slightly more pricey but usually on 3 for 2 in boots - l'oreal ever pure

I use a standard shampoo, then Shu Uemura conditioner. Definitely worth it, expensive but I need only use a tiny amount for maximum effect (one bottle lasts me about 6 months, daily wash on shoulder length mum-mullet !) I had to borrow my DD's conditioner while we away on holiday - 2 weeks - my hair felt like straw.
