How long do your Gelish nails last

I thought I had finally discovered something that works. I have never got on with manicure and varnish - always smudged by the time I have paid. The Gelish nails look good for about a week or 10 days but then chip and crack. It's hard to remove. It is advertised as lasting 2-3 weeks! I have always worn gloves for washing up am a domestic slattern don't have much time for housework, don't do the sort of job which involves masses of handwashing but my nails are not lasting. I have tried two different places now. Is it me? It sounds silly but I feel so more polished with nice nails. Mine are quite weak and tend to break so the Gelish helps keep them from doing that.

3 weeks at least, I tend to get them changed because they grow out more than anything. Sounds like its not being applied correctly. Do they go over the free edge of the mail. That's important

I think it is the application. The first time I was with the DCs and so I thought she might have had to rush a bit but she did seem a bit slapdash. The second time was a nail tech who has just started. Will try elsewhere - shame as both were really handy from home

I find it tends to look really good for about 10 days and I can usually drag it out to about 3 weeks before I have it re-done. I very rarely have problems with chipping or cracking though - for me the main problem is that it grows out.

dustyhousewithdustypeople · 30/09/2012 08:55

Mine peeled off within a day, I was so disappointed.

Imlostwithoutahope · 30/09/2012 10:26

Mine lasted ten days on my fingers but seven weeks on my toes. The varnish on my fingers peeled really bad but my toes didn't. It did make me think it was because my hands were being knocked / doing buttons up etc.

Three weeks and going strong here. Very odd, watching my nails grow!

Rindercella · 30/09/2012 10:32

Two weeks, but that's only because my nails grow so quickly so there's too much nail growth showing after two weeks. Otherwise I am sure it would last for 3 weeks. I am not particularly careful either - just get on doing my usual stuff without worrying about them.

I agree it's about the application. If it's done well, then there should be no problems. Dustyhouse, if yours peeled after a day then they weren't done properly.

I have Shellac nails and they are fantastic!

My nails are now beautiful from not picking them anymore!

They lasted 4 weeks the first time but that was with a lot of regrowth so I now have them done every 3 weeks.

Could be application, could just be your nails, what do you do as a job?
I don't use a gel polish as I use Calgel on my clients but I have heard that gelish is just as good as leading brands like shellac.
As a nail tech prep work is the most key area for me and often a reason why nails lift or peel (if the foundations are rubbish your house will fall down lol) your nail tech should be removing ALL cuticle from the nail not just tickling your nail plate with the tool, I would then buff over with a white block to remove shine and ridges if any then I would dehydrate with a liquid if you nail tech is particulary slow at applying I would expect her to wipe over the nail again before applying the product, application shouldn't be too thick or thin and needs to go in the lamp for the right amount of time or it won't cure properly,
Maybe try a salon with a reputable nail tech see if they last any longer, if they don't it may just be your nails :)

BeauNeidel · 30/09/2012 11:27

I had heard from people that it just doesn't last on - it doesn't last on me for more than a week to 10 days as I get weird under the surface cracks which annoy me, so I take it off.

One girl I spoke to recently said it peels off within a day on her, but that does sound like the nail isn't being prepped properly.

carrie74 · 30/09/2012 16:22

2-3weeks for me, the worst bit is the re growth.

Househunter · 30/09/2012 18:04

3 weeks but I've had the bio-sculpture brand. The technician spent ages preparing my nails and applying the polish so its probably about asking around and finding someone with a good reputation.

Mima123 · 18/12/2013 21:44

I have been a nail tech for 10 years, I bought the gelish kit 2 months ago and I went on a gelish course on how to apply it as it came free with the kit so why not.I am doing everything correctly, preparing the nail cuticle work, buffing, ph bond, thin coat of base then thin coat of colours building it up each time till it looks perfect (capping free edge every time) then I finish of with the top coat capping free edges again, I cure nails with the gelish lamp for each coat for 30 seconds as specified, nails look perfect no polish on skin or cuticle then after 3 days they chip. I'm really annoyed as I've paid over €600 for the kit and all the colours, I've used shellac and I also do gel nails and I've never had this problem before with other products, I find the gelish disappointing ?? my nails are slightly dry. Does anyone else find the gelish not to last.

MsOedipaMaas · 08/08/2017 17:32

I don't have any problems with gel nails but my sister can't get them as her nails are naturally too "oily" - they peel off in a day or two!

NancyJoan · 08/08/2017 17:35

Three weeks, it's harder wearing than the CND Shellac. Only have it redone because it grows out, never chips etc.
