The Worst perfume ever!

Was in HOF today and as i have no money at the moment to spend (despite their sale) decided to cheer myself up with a spray ( or two) of their posh perfumes. Big Mistake- sprayed Serge lutyens Tuberose Criminale- and it was!!!! Well the smell was criminal- like camphor, moth balls mixed with wintergreen , that awful muscle rub stuff. Jesus wept and it lasts and lasts and lasts. Can't kill it off, despite Annick Goutal Ninfeo Mio on my other wrist. You have been warned.....Though i do dare you!!!

Well, if you ever want to clear a room in seconds...

coffeeinbed · 23/10/2012 21:00

Well, Fracas is not for the faint hearted either.
(I do love it though)

MsArseBiscuit · 23/10/2012 21:02

It's not offensive just a bit long lasting ( I'd like to sniff it on George Clooney's neck )

coffeeinbed · 23/10/2012 21:07

Anything in the name of perfume research!

CointreauVersial · 23/10/2012 22:36

I will be approaching my sample of Fracas with extreme caution.

A bit of Tom Ford tomorrow, methinks......

kiwigirl42 · 23/10/2012 23:29

I've had my nose stuck in my copy of Perfume - The guide I really recommend it if you have any perfume interest. I don't agree with all his reviews but its a highly informative book.

shoeprincess2 · 24/10/2012 12:56

So, with much excitement, I took delivery of my StC samples yesterday and they even threw in a coffee flavoured candy with my order! Yesterday, I tried out Coromandel and it was very similar to my Black Orchid by TF, so really liked it. Not enough to fork out the £200, or whatever it is for a bottle. A delightful winter fragrance. Today's sample is White Patchouli by TF and i have to say, I am very disappointed by it. I applied it at 9.30am and I can barely smell it now. I like a fragrance that I can sniff on myself all day, so I won't be buying a bottle of this. Tomorrow's fragrance is Violet Blonde, which i am really looking forward to wearing and Friday's will be Fracas (when I am staying in and not going to knock anybody out with). Finally, I will be testing Must de Cartier on Saturday- it is the pure perfume, so I have high hopes for this one. I also went on ebay yesterday and purchased a tester of Gelsomino Nobile by AdP, so looking forward to that being posted out!

CointreauVersial · 24/10/2012 13:04

Today I'm wearing Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille - another gorgeous one! It starts off with a blast of cloves, but now has settled down, and I smell like a spicy mince pie with ice cream! Not at all sweet, though, if that makes sense, just lovely and warm.

coffeeinbed · 24/10/2012 13:13

I have Bois D'Ombrie.
A very autumnal woody - feel a bit Hmm and a bit childishly Grin typing this- iris.
A bit boozy, some leather.
An old favourite.

coffeeinbed · 24/10/2012 13:14

I have on

SorrelForbes · 24/10/2012 14:05

Another batch of samples arrived today:

Feminite de Bois
Grey Vetiver
Voleur de Rose

I'm currently wearing Feminite de Bois and have fallen in love. It reminds me of the old church halls that I did ballet lessons in as a child.

Also included in my package (free) were samples of:
Alien
Penhaligon's Gardenia
Diptyque Do Son

Alien is interesting [hhmm]

DonaAna · 24/10/2012 16:03

Great to hear that so many of you are falling in love with fantastic perfumes!
Love the mince pie analogy Grin

I'm wearing Theorema by Fendi. Pleasant enough, but am secretly craving Tauer's Loretta (a tuberose that is bigger than Fracas - a dab is more than enough) - but won't as I'm going out for dinner tonight and don't want to poison my sushi. If you don't like tuberose up-front, forget about it for some time and then come back - I did not like big tuberoses when I became interested in perfume, but my taste has changed completely. (Poison, yum!)

I love iris perfumes. Many iris perfumes are warm, but I prefer the ice-cold ones, 28 La Pausa in particular.

Perfumes - A-Z (Turin&Sanchez) is a great book and will take anyone's interest in perfumery to another level.

MsArseBiscuit · 24/10/2012 17:03

This afternoon I've dabbed a little Lonestar Memories on my wrists ( thank you, Haberdashery ) - it reminds me of the smell of an operating theatre, I suspect that might mean it smells of iodine/Betadine, it's not like any perfume I've tried before. I think I like it but it is a bit 'out there'.

Haberdashery · 24/10/2012 17:17

Ooh, that sounds most intriguing. And it's my pleasure. I think I may have to try that one myself.

MsArseBiscuit · 24/10/2012 18:49

It's the kind of thing you want to keep on sniffing, now it's more smokey, creosote-y with a smidge of TCP.

Haberdashery · 24/10/2012 20:05

I really really love the smell of TCP. I am going to have to try this. I imagine it the kind of perfume that makes me want to sniff myself but has other people backing away in confusion.

DonaAna · 25/10/2012 12:46

My Malle coffret shop.fredericmalle.com/fr/perfumes/coffrets-collection/2012-collection-207.html arrived today. Great timing - my small samples were used up and I prefer owning lots of perfume minis to two or three bottles.

Right now basking in the glory of Le Parfum de Therese - a magnificent perfume that feels not the least bit dated. If you are into heady va-va-voom florals, you should try this.

DonaAna · 25/10/2012 12:47

Sorry, Malle link messed up: this should work.

SorrelForbes · 25/10/2012 13:20

Tryed out Voleur de Rose last night and meh, nice but nothing special.

Currently wearing Grey Vetiver and I like! Nice and masculine.

Too scared to try the Alien sample just yet.

MsArseBiscuit · 25/10/2012 18:44

Après L'ondee this afternoon, smells like a slightly less sweet and slightly more complicated, packet of Parma Violets.

ThatsNice · 25/10/2012 23:42

My samples came today; Tom ford private blend and coromandel. I like the coromandel but not as much as I'd hoped I would (love patchouli). The Tom ford one, I wasn't sure I liked at all just having a snif from the bottle. That said..I've just dabbed some on now, inspired by this thread, lol! And OMG I love it!! I can't stop sniffing it Grin Thank you for the inspiration to try something a bit different and not high street Grin

DonaAna · 26/10/2012 07:55

Nice, Coromandel is a soft-core patchouli - if you like the deeper, dustier, dirtier patchouli notes, try Borneo 1838 by Serge Lutens or Patchouli Imperial by Dior. Patchouli is another love/hate ingredient, many people have an aversion to it, and it's often toned down in perfumery.

It's a cool, humid, overcast day and to match the mood (and inspired by Olfactoria), I'm wearing Equistrius by Parfum d'Empire, a cool-warm iris-amber. If anyone is interested in a generous and inexpensive sample set of high-quality perfumes, check out Parfum d'Empire. They have a great amber, a great leather, a great iris, a great citrus...

Northumberlandlass · 26/10/2012 11:55

Can't catch up with whole thread as I'm on phone...but just wanted to let you know, got my sample of Tabacco Vanille today & while I didn't like it on the 'stick' - I adore it on my skin Smile

Perfect warm scent for today (snow!!)

Thanks

DonaAna · 26/10/2012 12:52

Yes, Tobacco Vanille is really perfect for snow!

Euquistrius wore off quickly. I dabbed on a tiny drop of Loretta - I am obsessed with this fantastic tuberose scent by Andy Tauer and need to wear it several times per week . You can find inexpensive samples of it in the UK here - definitely worth trying if you like Fracas / Poison / Tubereuse Criminelle.

cardoon · 26/10/2012 14:10

Can you experts tell me how you rate Estee Lauder Tuberose & Gardenia, please?
