How can I put lose waves in my hair

I have mid length hair and bought some boots big rollers that I have tried a couple of times to use but all it seems to give me is a bit more volume but no waves.

Am I using the wrong thing or wrong technique?

I was hair, put some mousse in then roll the 4 rollers in, then dry my hair and pull out the rollers when they have cooled down

Check you tube for sock bun tutorials.

How wide are the rollers? You need to get the balance between them being big enough to get a loose wave but not that big they are just for volume.
To get a wave with rollers you hair needs to wrap round a couple of times at least.
I would think you would need more that 4. If there is too much hair in each one it doesn't curl properly.

Babyliss waving wand? It does kind of beachy waves. I love mine.

Sorry stupid question - but what do you mean by mid-length?

I have never been able to get rollers to work, but can achieve subtle waves by plaiting or braiding my hair when damp and then leaving over night (best effect) or blasting with the hair dryer.

Is your hair long enough to do this?

Beaverfeaver · 28/09/2012 19:58

I could probably give it a plait or two. I might have forgotten how to though!

Mid length being just past top of shoulders

DD (21) has longish straight hair and washes it then puts 4/5 plaits in, leaves it to dry then shakes it all out, gives it a tousle = Shakira type loose waves.

I have long hair (past shoulder, not quite bottom of shoulder blade length) and I have a spiral perm on bendy rollers, lasts up to a year, looks like Debra Messing (on a good day) :)

Is this a good one to try: www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4435114.htm

This is my one

My hair is down to my elbows btw.

FloppyWire · 28/09/2012 20:32

I'd try a sock bun first as mentioned above. It only costs an old sock and I managed to get some nice waves today with it (my hair is the same length as yours) I put the bun at my crown and left it in place for an hour or so, although I could've comfortably slept overnight with it in.

Beaverfeaver · 28/09/2012 21:24

Do you use a normal sock or a pop sock?
