Practical but smart winter boots

Hello
I am trying to find boots for the winter that a waterproof and will stop me from slipping on ice and snow but also look smart. Anyone got any tips?

I walk to and from work which is about 2 miles each way, push 17month old DD 2 days a week and am in my first trimester with second. So comfort, safety and style are what I'm after. I can pay up to £150 if they last a few years.

Thanks for tips :)

Merrell Prevoz. I love mine

have linked to these twice already Grin, what about these musto ones? they come in a darker brown too but that colour is now mostly out of stock.

Timberland do some lovely looking waterproof boots. Have a look at javari - just type in 'waterproof boots' then search. I love their Stratham Heights tall boots, but probably a bit high for all that walking. Their Mount Holly ones look really comfy (but I bet you can find them less expensive elsewhere) Rockport do some funky ones too. Its difficult to know without knowing what sort of 'style' you're after - do you want boots that look like workwear, or are you happy with the sort of fur-lined laceup look?

Thanks for tips, I will try and find a pair of the Merrell Prevoz to try on.

I actually bought the Musto ones but am sending them back. They are massive on my calf and also finished off really badly so look really cheap along the zip.

Will check out Timberland too- there's a store in Glasgow so will try to get in at the weekend. I want something that looks fairly classic but know that this is hard to find whilst being pratical. Bought Russell and Bromley boots a few years ago but slip on even a tiny bit of ice! So am willing to comprimise ;)

That's just what I wanted done for lots of walking and also pregnant again so to be extr careful big to slip and slide. My Prevoz came on Monday and they are perfect! I normally struggle to do up a log of boots over my calves yet these I can wear over straight leg jeans as they are lace up and with a zip. They are £140 on Smazon yet £80 from Sports Direct!!

carrielou2007 · 20/09/2012 12:34

Forgot to add I went to Sports Direct bug they fidn'g have any but said they do start to keep them in store to try on in a few weeks time Smile

Another vote for Prevoz, they are the best winter boots, ridiculously warm, like they have some kind of central heating built in and I have waded through streams and things in mine and they have never leaked.

Thanks so much for the tip carrielou- just checked out Sports Direct and you're right - £80, that's amazing!

Grin Mine were an massive impulse buy last year. There was a thread on here when Javari had them in sizes 5 and 7 in black for £89 or something, then someone else had a 20% off code for Javari, having missed out on similar Mumsnet recomended bargains in the past (anyone remember the Fly thread a few years ago?) I decided I needed them and got them straight away and I love them.

carrielou2007 · 20/09/2012 12:58

I had a discount code but then I would have had to pay for delivery. They did send me z free Sports Direct mug too Grin

Tweet2tweet · 20/09/2012 13:00

They are £75.99 with discount code and delivery or £80 without discount code so still £4.00 oof. Just ordered them! Thanks again, am hoping they won't be too loose on my leg.
