My hair is sticky

Not sure why and have changed shampoo and conditioner twice to get rid of the build up, its disgusting and looks greasy I can even feel it in my hair when I am washing it, what could it be?

I am using naked range now, before it was l'oreal stuff from the hairdresser and before that was any old thing (including aussie which my hairdresser said was the culprit), before that was aveda which I think was ok.

Have also done a home dye job a month or more ago, any ideas on how to get rid of it?

Ok, I know this sounds drastic, but if you use washing up liquid (just once, not all the time), it will get rid of any product build up on your hair.

my hair sometimes feels like this if it is very greasy and I am using a shampoo that isnt 'harsh' enough. Sometimes I use something like a tea tree shampoo to cut through the grease, and have in the past also used washing up liquid as suggested by pp

I was advised to use washing up liquid too by a fairly expensive hairdresser. Worked for me!

Thank you, head really itchy feels horrible so am going to try washing up liquid I think!

Buy a Detox shampoo one that removes build up & grease. Do you use serum or wax? You must have too much product coating the hair if it feels sticky.

putonyourredshoes · 19/09/2012 14:29

Why did your hairdresser blame the Aussie stuff? I use it precisely to stop greasy build up so am worried now!

used2bthin · 19/09/2012 19:59

Thats it, I don't use products (bf 3m old and not been doing much with my appearance recently Blush ) I wonder if it was the home hair dye?

Hairdressor said she could tell I'd used aussie stuff! She even told the girl shampooing it to 2wash it twice its full of product" said in slightly disgusted tone! But the shampoo and conditioner I bought on her recommendation has been worse if anything or maybe its a gradual build up thing.

Have you done it? Does it feel better? Smile

used2bthin · 19/09/2012 22:10

Not done it yet-nipped to town to get one thing, hair horrible, scraped back and nearly no make up,wearing frumpy clothes and feeling fat-hen bumped into an ex-definately trying the washing up liquid in the morning.

Oh I hate when things like that happen! I guarantee that the day I'm running late and take ds2 to school in the car having thrown a hoody and flip flops over my pjs, is the day teacher is waiting at the gate "for a quick word"! Blush

Ha ha I know, so typical. He looked the same as he did ten years ago of course! It spurred me into buying two new tops though as cannot keep walking about like this!Used washing up liquid today. Could feel it worked. But have just brushed with scuzzy brush while drying it and can feel its a bit coated again so off to soak brush in fairy now!

I had the same problem when I stopped using shampoo with silicone and SLS in it. My hair was constantly sticky and bleurgh! The only product that I' ve found to get rid of the stickiness is Faith in Nature tea tree shampoo, works brilliantly.

Paintyourbox · 20/09/2012 10:46

Pantene do a really good clarifying shampoo thats quite cheap, it's great for removing too much build up.

onetiredmummy · 20/09/2012 10:52

OP have you been bleaching it?

Dillydollydaydream · 20/09/2012 11:01

I used a soap and glory hair mask and that made my hair really sticky. I ha to use a deep clarifying shampoo to get it all out. Awful stuff, the only positive I suppose was that my hair wasn't frizzy!

used2bthin · 20/09/2012 11:46

It does seem to have got worse since I started using the naked stuff which I think is sls free. May have to get the tea tree stuff.

May also use clarifying shampoo although am impressed with fairy liquid so far I have to say!

onetiredmummy I did a home hair dye, I have dark hair and it was medium brown and permanent so may well have had bleach in, could that be causing it? In fact I have darker root regroth so it must have had bleach in, was just thinking I must book in for a colour as it looks dreadful.
