Has anyone had a nose job?

And if so do you mind telling me how much it cost?

And how much of an idea you were given beforehand about what it would look like afterwards?

Were you happy with the results?

And what was the recovery like? How long before you wouldn't scare small children?

Thank you if you reply to this.

I'm very tempted but want to research for a few years first.

Oh, and if I snored and often had a blocked nose would it be able to help with this too?

Have you got a deviated septum? I have one and used to get terrible tonsilitis as a result. I had my tonsils out aged 24 and then, aged 34, I wanted my nose straightened. I went as far as booking the surgery and then wimped out at the last minute and had my short sight/astigmatism lasered instead, to avoid wearing the glasses that prevented me breathing properly. Have never really regretted not having my nose straightened.

I've just googled deviated septum and I think I might have that. I wonder if I had surgery for that if they could make my nose smaller and less pointy at the same time.

OP - I haven't had it yet but am booked in for 8 weeks time. Yes, if you have septum surgery then can also straighten nose/remove bump and reduce tip at same time as this is what I'm having done.

Recovery period is approx 2 weeks. You'll feel fine after 2-3 days but dont get the stints off your nose until day 10 so you'll be bandaged up for this lengthy of time with probable black eyes too so I guess I'll look pretty horrific. Most people take 2 weeks off work not due to how they feel but how they look.

I'm shit scared about it tbh but it'll be worth it in the long run (hopefully!)

I had a nosejob when I was 22 - it cost me nothing as it was done on the NHS (no medical reason, I just had a humungous hooter, and for some reason my GP was happy to refer me for surgery. Had to wait three years, though).

Beforehand, the surgeon took me through what they were planning and explained how it would look.

It sounds daft, but it really didn't hurt too much - the idea was much worse than the reality. The day after, I did feel as if I had been punched, and my face was swollen, with two fabulous black eyes and a lovely plaster "beak", but it wasn't painful really. The wadding inside my nostrils was removed before I went home and I felt fine within a couple of days.

The beak stayed on for about 10 days. Yes, you look scary, although I do remember wandering bravely round Waitrose with my mum at one point. It did take a couple more weeks after that for the bruising to completely disappear, and the last bit of the swelling to go down, but once the beak was off (and with the application of lots of concealer) you wouldn't have noticed anything odd.

I was dead chuffed with the results - as soon as the beak came off I knew it was a vast improvement. They narrowed my nose and took out the bulbous tip, with no visible scarring - amazing, really.

The top of my nose has been a little numb ever since, but who cares?

Go for it, it is one of the most successful forms of plastic surgery, and you will be so glad you did.

I had one done at the age of 17 and had a septoplasty (to correct grossly deviated septum) at age 22. Both done free (nose job because of history of cleft lip/palette) and septoplasty was an NHS ENT referral. Both similar operations. After the nose job I had to wear a small cast on it, had it taken off after a week (was meant to be two but was going on holiday) and had black eyes/puffy face for a good 10 days. Septoplasty was similar, no cast but puffy face and bruising for a while. Septoplasty helped reduce my symptoms of recurrent sinusitis and sinus headaches however they are getting more frequent again and feel I might need a revision - going to speak to a surgeon at work this morning, perks of private healthcare. I would like another nose job too, I know it won't ever be perfect but theres a few flaws I'm not happy with.

Honestly the worst part about both these operations is 1) having the nasal packs removed (I had ribbon gauze the first time and the proper nasal tampons the second), 2) the stuffiness, not being able to breathe through your nose or blow it, expect this for a good few weeks. You also need to be careful not to knock it especially in the first couple of months, unfortunately I did this when I had my nose job, it felt like it 'bent' and maybe this isn't why I'm entirely happy? But I say go for it :)

CointreauVersial · 19/09/2012 12:50

Oh yes, having the "tampons" pulled out of your nostrils - gah, that was horrid. It was like a magician pulling a scarf out of a hat - it kept coming!

SunshineOutdoors · 19/09/2012 16:31

Ha ha, that reminds me I got packed as I was bleeding a lot after giving birth to dd. The next day having the long length of gauze taken out was awful - it reminded me of hankies pulled from a magicians sleeve!
