Right then, I'm having a clear out. What should go?

I am not a naturally stylish person at all, but you people are!

So I'm sorting out my wardrobe.

There are things I loved a lot once, but I bet they are past their best now.

Let me tell you what they are, then you can knock them down and I will happily pass them on to my favourite charity shop....

Two mid-calf floral corduroy Boden skirts. Lined, and expensive at the time. Wore them all the time about, what, five or six years ago, possibly even longer. Blush Still wear them a bit, but now prefer to get my legs out more as they (m'legs) are still v presentable! Other body parts decay quicker but legs last a while, I now realise. Wink

One mid-calf plain navy corduroy M&S skirt. See above.

Three pairs of dead boring polyestery bootleggy smartish trousers in black, brown and purple. Dear God, I'm answering my own question here!

Go on, tell me, they all need to go, don't they?

I think they should all go!

dexter73 · 18/09/2012 10:55

Or if the skirts are straight could you get them taken up and wear them as minis?

DonaAna · 18/09/2012 11:07

Mid-calf lengths must go - even my 70+ mother cannot wear them (she still has good legs)!

MrsFuddyDuddy · 18/09/2012 11:27

Hoorah! Yes, you are right. They must go.

No, dexter they are not straight. They are flared. Oh dear.

dexter73 · 18/09/2012 11:49

Bin them straight away!!

MrsFuddyDuddy · 18/09/2012 11:57

Yep, I am about to stroll them up to the charity shop. Thanks!

Hmm, worrying. I don't want to change your mind OP, (am clearly no style advisor!) but I have something similar I am hanging on to and planning to wear in a clearly misguided hopefully 'retro' / shabby chic kind of way.

Do we think a-line cord is beyond even the hop of this look?

Is this look mad anyway.
Am I bonkers?!

dexter73 · 18/09/2012 13:53

I think it may look more 'crazy old cat lady' than 'shabby chic'!!!

lowercase · 18/09/2012 14:16

i like this length on me.
works with boots and sandals.
WAD i get you, just have to wear it like you mean it.

not following fashion is a fashion.

MrsFuddyDuddy · 18/09/2012 15:36

Hmm, WAD and lowercase, thanks. See, I'm early fifties. I am aware that crazy old cat lady ain't so far off the mark!

Anyway, I can't be arsed to cart the stuff into town yet, so it is still in the hall by the front door. Decision not yet made!

Really truly old-lady mid calf? I didn't think they still made those! Or do you say mid-calf to mean sort of just under the knee (cos that's where I often wear skirts and now I'm worried!)
Mid-calf to me is at the widest bit of your calf, never flattering on anyone.

SuePurblybilt · 18/09/2012 15:40

Oh, tactless moi, I didn't mean to imply that you were an old lady . Just that I associate that length with elasticated polyesteer and cauliflower hair. NOT you. No.

MrsFuddyDuddy · 18/09/2012 15:43

I am short.

These skirts, which I truly loved once, are between mid-calf and ankle. Since I now realise that my legs are my best feature [not joking emoticon] I think they swamp me.

Yes, just below the knee is quite elegant relatively.

X post!!!! Offence not taken. Oh no. MN is a luffly place, usually.

But seriously (at least in a S&B kind of way) isn't it hard to get rid of clothes that cost good money and one used to love?

OP posts:
SuePurblybilt · 18/09/2012 15:47

Sorrysorrysorry. Honestly, I only exist to offend someone on here.

Could you have them taken up then, as someone suggests? I think the cord sounds quite nice (is it thin needlecord?) but they'd have to be shorter.

MrsFuddyDuddy · 18/09/2012 15:50

Yes. Thin needlecord. Very floral. I used to love them because they were so vibrant on a dull day but, honestly, if I don't get a grip now I shall look like somebody's grandmother.

SuePurblybilt · 18/09/2012 15:55

Ah well, there I must stop giving shit advice cos I DO dress like Miss Marple (s'OK, I like it) and I would wear them, on the knee, with boots or old fashionedy shoes and tights.

But I appreciate that may not be what everyone wants to look like. Grin

I'd deffo get rid of the nylony trousers though.

BrianButterfield · 18/09/2012 15:56

I think they'd look good as straight minis too (even if it's a Boden 'mini' i.e. above the knee!) If they fit round the waist skirts are easy to alter.

MrsFuddyDuddy · 18/09/2012 17:09

Right then, the nylony trousers have gone, but the skirts might live to see another day.

OP posts:
CountryBelle · 18/09/2012 17:55

Get the skirts shortened to just hitting the knee. Wear with coloured opaque tights, nice boots (ankle or knee high) and a long sleeve jersey tee. Accessorise with coordinating scarf. Job done!! I love this look, its also cosy and comfy!

Trousers? Bin! Now!!!

MrsFuddyDuddy · 18/09/2012 18:04

Thanks, countrybelle, lovely clear instructions! A touch bossy, but I don't mind a bit. Grin

Well i am a teacher so clear instructions (plus a little bossiness!) are all part of the job!! hehe :-)
