Short people (or anyone with an opinion) what boots are you wearing?

I keep looking and feel very indecisive about what style to buy, for the last few years I had knackered fly mol (£40 mn bargain) for when it was totally dry and I just wanted something casual to wear with dresses. The zip has gone on one of the Fly boots. I have a fairly bog standard pair of black knee boots from Jones the Bootmaker (size 4 but I can need a 5 in some shoes).

I would like another pair of boots to wear with skinny and straight jeans, dresses, mini skirts, possibly even with shorts if I find shorts I want to buy. I don't want to make myself look any shorter than I am, my legs are good (ish), I have skinny ankles, well defined calves. I usually don't have trouble getting boots to fit. But what style? Will short ankle boots make me look shorter/stumpier? Will they go with the clothes I wear (casual dresser).

I would like something that will withstand a Scottish winter, probably in brown or dark colour but preferably not black, I don't mind a heel if it is sturdy - not stiletto.

Price range up to £100, less if they are very on trend and going to go out of fashion v quickly. Not sure if I actually need two pairs of boots, one for winter snow and the other for Saturdays, out with friends, coffee and mooching around the shops.

I like these but they are not available in my size, sob. Good price though, maybe slightly high, so not everyday boots?

I want those with heels 1/2 that hight please.
Yes I know that's straying into mum boot territory, but I have to be able to walk, stand about and drive in them all day.

dexter73 · 18/09/2012 11:14

These are quite similar and if you use the code BEFIRST you get 20% off.

LizLemon007 · 18/09/2012 11:15

Well, I'd be half afraid to say here Grin becauuse they're not very fashionable, butfor just running around what I wanted was a pair of hardy boots that would give me as much height as possible while still being EASY to walk in. I got these

these

and they have got nicer as my foot has put creases into them. I can stride around in them like they're flats but they make me 5'4 (instead of 5'2). I have seen boots that would give me a bit more height but I'd be kind of pootling about doing the high heels walk.

choceyes · 18/09/2012 11:17

I'm short too and I normally wear knee length biker boots or calf length biker boots. The chunkiness of the bikerboot balances out my skinny ankles and calves I find. I want to get a pair of ankle boots too, but with a dip at the front, so it doesn't look like they are cutting up my legs, which will make legs even shorter. Haven't found any yet though, although I haven't been looking that hard!

TapselteerieO · 18/09/2012 11:25

Choceyes that is what I would like to avoid with ankle boots too, wondering if lace up desert boot style would be more flattering, with or without a heel?

I am 5ft so any additional height is good.

Clarks wedge desert boots are very very comfy and give a bit of lift (I'm 5ft too)

TapselteerieO · 18/09/2012 12:19

Cheers nicknick, I will have a look, do you find them flattering or are you super slender (I am 10 in trousers i.e Topshop) but much bigger on top, 12 with 30G norks.

OP posts:
TapselteerieO · 18/09/2012 12:28

Choc these have a dip, I am just not sure about the cowboy vibe I am getting from them...

Liz I think I want my boots shorter or longer, I am sure they would not be right for me, where do they cut, quite far above the ankle? .

TapselteerieO · 18/09/2012 12:33

Cheers dexter was it you who found the link to the new look ones on a blog? I think I was looking at another thread when I started this one. Not sure about the clarks ones but good discount is tempting.

oooh I really like those Office boots TapselteerieO A bit more than I was wanting to pay but they are really nice. I don't think they look that cowboyish at all really.

nicknicknick · 18/09/2012 13:42

i used to be slender but am now the not so proud posessor of a mum tum. Legs are OK though!

I also have these

www.clarks.co.uk/p/20351642

Maybe not the most stylish item but very comfy for school run etc and look good with straight leg jeans,

TapselteerieO · 18/09/2012 13:48

These are leather choc, and cheaper!

I have these - they are lovely and comfortable and hardly feel like wearing heels at all.

Meggles76 · 18/09/2012 18:23

I am 5ft and have just ordered the Clarks Melanie Jane style in tan. Great for day to day as they give a little height.

LizLemon007 · 18/09/2012 18:25

Those lotta beccles ones would be lovely in a knee high version. bit high for me for walking around during the day but would be lovely for going out. I can go 3" going out!

pinklantern · 18/09/2012 18:35

I'm wearing these KG's: www.kurtgeiger.com/women/shoes/boots/vito-1.html

I had a very similar KG pair two years ago but they had a thinner heel and were everso slightly more 'evening'. They were a tad on the uncomfy side but I wore them day and night for the last 2 A/Ws (they are well built!) - imagine my delight then at finding these, the EXACT same boots with a chunkier, more comfortable heel this A/W!! I like to think I communicated my design thoughts to KGHQ with the power of my mind Grin

They look great with black opaques and shift dresses, minis etc.

TapselteerieO · 20/09/2012 11:24

Going to have a look at your kg boots pinklantern but fear they maybe out of my price range...

Talking of things being out of my price range I have seen two styles I like, I know I am erring towards a casual look, this and this are styles that might be better for me. I just think the more gaping/straight across style will emphasise how short my legs are, so I think lace up are best.

TapselteerieO · 20/09/2012 11:52

They are lovely pinklantern, I really like them.

I am short and have some gorgeous Fly ankle boots with 3 inch delicate heel - don't look like typical Fly boots at all, but they are: can walk and stand all day in them. They are gorgeous. But two years old. Been trying to find a replacement pair but Fly this year are all chunky heels.

For long boots this year I went for these. Not very exciting or original but they do have a slight heel and are versatile. Work with jeans tucked in or skirts.

TheBirdsTheBirds · 20/09/2012 15:01

I am quite short and I'm wearing these. They are very comfy but give a bit of height, seem pretty study for suede and best of all don't make my curvy legs look like they've been chopped because they finish at the ankle bones rather than higher up the ankle.

TapselteerieO · 20/09/2012 15:14

That is good to know thebirds, what are you wearing them with? Do they go well with dresses and skirts?

OP posts:
TheBirdsTheBirds · 20/09/2012 15:37

So far I've only worn them with dresses and opaque black tights! So yes :) The suede + black tights makes them really leg lengthening because they blend well rather than being all shiny, iyswim.
