Has anyone tried AVEDA hair products?.....

Any good?

Morning all!

Was just wondering if anyone had tried them, because they read really well and i've read some good reviews.

I have very long, thick, curly/wavy hair which I try to control with intensive conditioners and my trusty GHD's. However, my hair sometimes just wont play ball and goes a bit whoohoo!! You know what I mean, a bit dry and frizzy. Oh and I currently use aussie 3 minute miracle for long hair, but that's starting to fail me nowSad

So i'm hoping that someone will encourage me to try this AVEDA range, or any other magical range.

Thank you!

I'm using Damage Remedy and am pleased with it, but had a brazilian blowdry at the same time so am not sure how it would be on untreated hair.

Despite bring sold as natural it still has ingredients not recommended for curly hair, like dimethicone. Once the blow dry wears off I'm going to try the curly girl method instead.

SpicyPear · 18/09/2012 11:53

Oh, and I have got through my bottles quite quick despite my hair not being that long so you might find it expensive for long hair!

I have been usiong the Black Malva conditioner to try to keep the orange out of my hair. It's fine but the smell makes me want to retch. Have decided to go back to my beloved Redken (I have exactly the same hair as you and swear by Redken Smooth Down and Smooth Lock products). Not exactly cheap but much more affordable than Aveda (I buy them on hqhair.com).

Fluffycloudland77 · 18/09/2012 12:21

I used it for years, it is good but I'm using loreal pro serie natural pure abundance for fine hair (it smells like choc orange) and joico daily conditioner (from TK Maxx) and my hair still looks nice.

Cheap hair products ruin my hair completely. I never learn though I still try a new one every now and then and wonder if I need my haid testing afterwards.

I've used the Volumising Tonic and don't feel it makes any difference tbh.

jan2011 · 18/09/2012 13:25

i didn't like aveda thought it was quite dry

MrsCurly · 18/09/2012 13:38

I have very thick curly hair and found the Aveda stuff to be fantastic, even though it is hideously expensive. The damage remedy conditioner in particular makes a huge difference. I even use it on the children's hair now.

TheBrianRogersConnection · 18/09/2012 13:42

I don't like the shampoos, they don't suit my hair, but I love Damage Remedy and I'm an Aveda blonde Smile

amibi · 18/09/2012 14:20

Thanks everyone.

Some negatives, some positives, but I think i'll give the damage remedy a go, which was the one in particular I was looking at.

Does anyone know if they do a heat protective spray.

I use the Damage Remedy styling cream as my heat protector. Rub a small amoun into damp hair and it's all I need.

Hi Amibi

I've tried Aveda and like you have thick curly hair. I haven't tried Damage Remedy but have used their shampoos and that smoothing stuff called Control Paste. Smells wonderful but I personally find the products grotesquely overpriced. So I wandered into a shop that specialised in products for Afro hair which also tends to be a bit dry and picked up something called Organics - leave in liquid Hair Mayonnaise. I now slap it on my and my thick haired daughter's hair too. It's about a fiver and is the best hair conditioner I've ever used. From the same shop I bought a shampoo called Keratin - also excellent.

amibi · 18/09/2012 17:56

Cheers for those tips thebrian and frizz. Will definitely look out for that leave in mayonnaise. I take it it doesn't leave your hair greasy?....

Love Be Curly
But ration myself to buying the range 2-3 times a year

Itsgottabebags · 18/09/2012 19:51

Ask them for a sample OP as they are very obliging with samples. I have the dry remedy conditioner thing that you use once a week and love it and planning to repurchase!

EugenesAxe · 18/09/2012 19:51

I use Aveda and have been lurking as my hair can get a bit Frizzo the Rat...

I currently just use their Rosemary and Mint shampoo and conditioner - it's for totally normal hair but I wash every three days so doesn't dry out too much. I slap on Maroq oil for the roots and tops (where I get all the wisps of hair) and Aveda's Smooth Infusions serum at the ends, and my hair looks pretty good.

Just looked on Amazon for the Hair Mayo - it's all on there, so you can read more reviews and source easily.

Wheresmypopcorn · 19/09/2012 02:19

I use aveda shah pure shampoo and conditioner and have long thick hair - it lasts me a while as I don't have to wash it every day like I do with other shampoos which make me oily at the roots.

Wheresmypopcorn · 19/09/2012 02:58

Sorry that's meant to be shampure.
