ahem. 'nice' underwear

i would like some nice underwear. kind of like AP but without the price tag. doesnt have to be necessarily practical Wink but i would like it to hide my hideous saggy tummy (as i really have an issue with this) and it would hopefully make me feel attractive as well as making me look it (if thats at all possible).

so where should i try? am thinking it may be an internet shopping spree. i did see a nice corset in ann summers window - but was quite expensive for what it was and not the sort of thing i could wear outside of the bedroom.

not sure this counts as S&B but not sure where else to look

the new Rosie range at m&s has some nicer vintage inspired underwear. even new look has some along those lines.
Ann summers is very expensive for what it is. lots if nylon and quite scratchy. suppose it despends on if you only want it for the bedroom or if you want to wear under clothes.
if it's bedroom wear love honey has Bern recommended on here before.

shelley72 · 16/09/2012 20:40

thank you, dual purpose would be good - but probably asking too much there. i agree i dont like nylon or scratchy. or overpriced. i will take a look at M&S. and maybe love honey if im feeling brave!

I second Daisy - all the nicest "nice" stuff I have had has come from Marks. Debenhams also good in ny experience, not that I ever buy anything else there.

LadyEmmaHamilton · 16/09/2012 20:44

Sorry, should have said that by nicest I meant "comfortable enough to wear for more than 10 minutes" but I may be missing the point Grin

SorrelForbes · 16/09/2012 20:52

The Rosie Range looks nice but doesn't go any smaller than a 32 back unfortunately. Debenhams has some nice ranges at the moment. Another good site is Ewa Michalak.

Have a trawl through Figleaves.com. Lovely stuff on there.

AWomanCalledHorse · 16/09/2012 21:27

WhatKatieDid is fab for the occasional purchase, £60 minimum for bra & knickers, but they do lovely 'big knickers'.

Lovehoney is on Quidco, so you can get quite a bit of cashback! And they have decent-ish stuff at low prices.

I've found some nice stuff on eBay (mostly from China) but quality is very hit & miss.

Itsgottabebags · 17/09/2012 06:57

What about the Agent Provoceateur outlet at Bicester? Maybe have a look at the website and give them a ring to see if there's anything similar.

Try Myla too online.

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2012 09:25

Depends what size you are, but Fauve has some beautiful stuff which is still wearable day to day but beautiful silky fabrics with lovely detailing. The outlet section of the Leia Lingerie website has some massively reduced.

plantsitter · 17/09/2012 09:30

I would probably go to a local underwear shop as they generally have a fitting service and will be completely matter of fact about any droopy bits etc. I am enormous and self-conscious and still go to those kinds of places for underwear, partly 'cos I really think you have to try anything boob-containing on.

Rockstar44 · 17/09/2012 13:38

Have a look at Boux Avenue, there's some nice things on there & it's reasonably priced! I bought one of the satin teddies in the sale as abit of a 'test' item, it's very comfortable & very glamorous!

SloeFarSloeGood · 17/09/2012 14:24

I like freya underwear.

shelley72 · 17/09/2012 14:46

Thank you for all the suggestions. I really like some of the myla stuff, but the price Shock.

Size wise I am a saggy 34c, 10 but with a disgusting body. pre children I was an 18/20 with nice boobs and was much happier and confident in way I looked. I think that's what I'm after really, to feel more confident (esp in bedroom). Had lots of problems recently and whilst I know its not my fault, I want to feel like myself again.

Sorry have strayed a bit from s and b!

I think many of us can understand that. I used to be heavier, lost about 4 stone, got pregnant, gained 4 stone.....I'm now about 1.5 stone up from my pre pregnancy weight and hate what I see in the mirror. And yes, it does kill my bedroom confidence too. DH still seems to love it when I put on some nice lingerie - but I just see all the lumps and bumps.

Practical undies side. First off, I'll ask the typical S&B question - are you sure you are a 34c? Have you been fitted recently in somewhere that isn't M&S? Especially if you feel saggy post weightloss/babies it's worth making sure your bra is spot on - it really does help.

Secondly - once you are sure of sizing, what about something like a nice basque/corset or a babydoll or chemise which would cover your tummy? I have a lovely one from Panache which is properly supportive and it definitely helps.

shelley72 · 17/09/2012 15:18

I was measured in john lewis earlier this year, and had the most depressing experience where the assistant implied my boobs were beyond help and they couldn't find anything for me! Am very empty up top so have found that balcony styles work best. I think a corset/chemise would be just the thing - something to hide my tummy. Its a shocking sight if I have to bend down. Wish surgery was an optionSmile

Rattitude · 17/09/2012 15:23

What about Aubade and that kind of thing?

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/09/2012 15:24

That assistant sounds awful! JL fittings are normally ok but I'd be tempted to try elsewhere - what a moo! Given that she was horrid, I would maybe have a wee check of the fitting videos on the Bravissimo website to make sure she got it right. Especially if she couldn't find anything for you - she may have been at the wrong size! Most people tend towards too big in the back and too small in the cup.

I have a different patterned version of this. It starts at a D but it gives you an idea - it has a properly underwired supportive bra. Something that style might work?

Itsgottabebags · 17/09/2012 16:25

What about MiMi Holiday? Its available in John Lewis and think its a diffusion line by Damaris. There stuff is lovely as is Fauve which is everyday nice but luxurious

shelley72 · 18/09/2012 17:47

thank you. i have just looked on figleaves and i do like the aubade stuff and the mimi holiday. just a shame that i couldnt see much that covered the tummy!

Another vote for debenhams here too - and i think they have money off at the moment!

Rattitude · 18/09/2012 18:01

Here is another website. They have some lovely stuff.

I had a brief look through it and did not see anything suitable but I did not do an exhaustive search.

It might be worth contacting them to see if they stock something you might like.

They also have a shop in Dartmouth so if you live near there, it might be worth popping in.
