If you had to buy jeans online and you are a shorty wwyd?

OK I fit a Next size 8 petite pretty well but last time I bought jeans from them they were poor quality so I don't want to go there again.
The only jeans I own are 'hand me across ones' from friends and family. I've looked at both pairs and one pair is from an expensive label and the other pair; I'm not sure about. I like both pairs, they fit OK (with a belt) and the denim is good quality and by that I mean thick.
I had my measurements taken at Levis yesterday, am a 'slight curve'. I tried a pair on, they were OK but the denim is too thin and looked creased after one try. At M and S I worked out that I was a 'Marilyn', they didn't have a size 8 (or 10) in a short and by this time I was fed up (doesn't take long).

So I still like the boot cut, just because it does make my legs look longer, I've tried on 'straight' and 'skinny' and they are not me. Am thinking Boden at the mo' but not sure of the quality. I am tough on my clothes so I want a pair to last a while.
I don't get to the shops much so any starting point would be useful

for jeans, i would make time to go shopping rather than do it online, i think they need to be tried on. like bras.

i feel your pain tho!, last time i went jeans shopping it was in gap (had a voucher), and it was not easy to find anything that fitted right, and the ones i did get in the end, have one funny leg and it keeps twisting round!

CeeceeBloomingdale · 16/09/2012 10:43

Online Debenhams do denim in short lengths

TapselteerieO · 16/09/2012 14:05

I would try Topshop, they are good for petite jeans, not expensive and they last - I think they will be smaller made than M&S and possibly Next. Sainsbury's Tu range do short jeans, the denim seems pretty thick to me, £16.50 for skinny and £12 for bootcut, my mother bought the latter, so I could ask her how she finds them. Uniqlo is good but they are very generously cut, if you can go to a store they will adjust the length in store.

It is good to have a mix of jeans, you should have some everyday jeans. New Look might be worth trying and I have bought petite jeans from River Island but it is so difficult to find jeans that aren't embellished/ripped/strangely dyed in there that I very rarely look at them.

chillikat · 16/09/2012 14:17

I'm short and after some bootcut jeans at the moment too.

Topshop only seem to have skinny - a multitude of different kinds Confused

I managed to get one pair in New Look with 28" leg but they only seem to have dark blue. I'd like a lighter pair too ideally.

I have some Levi 553's bought in the US a few years ago. This thread has just reminded me to go look them up...

AlwaysOneMissing · 16/09/2012 14:38

YoungJoseph I am having the same predicament too.

I am so fed up with jeans that go baggy round the knees and waist after an hour of wearing them, and that get more and more out of shape every time they are washed.

I agree with the quality in Next, I have a 5 year old pair of jeans that are just on the way out now. I went back there recently and bought a new pair, hoping they would still be the quality that they have been in the past, but they are shocking!

Topshop jeans are good, but I find it hard to get a perfect fit in there.

I agree that a heavier denim would be much more hardwearing, too soft and stretchy and they go out of shape too easily.

Although unlike you OP, I would prefer skinny jeans than bootcut.

Good luck OP, and I will be watching this thread with interest!

Clure · 16/09/2012 14:52

I have a pair of bootcut distressed jeans which I bought from River Island about 6 years ago and they are still going strong ( I think the cut was called "sexy bootcut") they don't do those particular ones but these might be worth a look they may have the shorter leg in store. I'm 5'1 and the shorter length was a brilliant length with a small heeled boot underneath. For skinnies I like Topshop Baxters, Primark £9 skinnies and have just bought the New Look super soft skinnies which are very comfortable though not sure how they will wear!

YouOldSlag · 16/09/2012 14:56

I buy mine from Littlewoods, and type my requirements into search. I order three and send two back. It saves hours going through rails in a shop where you might find you get bootcut in your size but too long, or short jeans not in your size, or jeans in your size and length but not your style etc.

After spending 45 fruitless minutes in M and S once I swore to always buy online.

YoungJoseph · 16/09/2012 15:44

There was 25% off Debenhams so I have ordered a pair by Lands End, so we'll see....
Ideally yes I'd go shopping but I never have more than a couple of hours to spare and it is never enough. Also even though I live quiet near a huge shopping centre with huge department stores -they never have my size!

My experience, such as it is, is that the cheaper brands have a shorter petite leg than the more expensive brands which is why I have steered away from some of the brands such as Primark but my experience is quite dated (like my bootcuts) so if any of you know any better please let me know.

Thanks for your suggestions btw. Oh and chilli I had a pair of 553s as well-they were lovely. Well, I think they were 553s, it was a long time ago and yes bought in the States.

I got a pair of those levis bold curve jeans the other day, shorter leg length. I didn't think the material was cheap. I am loving them. the first pair of jeans i've had in years that isn't falling down. normally i get this low slung pouch of spare denim around my bum and I walk around hoisting the jeans up all day. Love these levis bold curve, i am a size 10-12 and got the waist 28 and they fit really nicely. leg length 30". 29" would probably be a better fit, but I'll get away with it. M&s petite leg length are too short for me. Confused

I have tried so many different jeans over the years and always had this problem. Oasis jeans are good but they don't do a shorter leg length. I think they do 32" and 34".

TapselteerieO · 16/09/2012 20:14

I find River Island, Tu, Topshop etc 30 inch are too long for me, Dorothy Perkins are owned by the same company as Topshop so they probably have similar lengths/styles available.

Meggles76 · 16/09/2012 21:59

OP, I also wear size 8 petite jeans and it's not easy!
Next had some more expensive bootcuts in my local store. Around £42 instead of £22 cheapo ones. I think the denim was thicker.
I also like Topshop petite but agree they only seem to stock the skinny variety at present.
What about Boden? They do a petite range these days.

TapselteerieO · 16/09/2012 23:43

Not bootcut but Topshop Martha in 30 inch leg, good everyday jeans.

spula · 17/09/2012 14:26

ASOS have a great petite section. I think almost all my trousers and jeans are from there!

YoungJoseph · 17/09/2012 19:53

So, thought I'd try Dotty P as 2 for £25 and I'd seen a top I'd like too. Was going for a straight leg this time and surprise surprise they are sold out. I have chunky thighs so am not sure Mathas would be for me. ASOS jeans also look too skinny for me but might revisit.

Also if I get a decent code I might try Boden but already some of their jeans are low stock.

OP posts:
TapselteerieO · 17/09/2012 20:49

Martha are not skinny straight, just straight. I find them pretty generous, I haven't bought the latest version of them but my old ones are big on me.

YoungJoseph · 18/09/2012 14:32

Thanks for the info Tap, just assumed that since Topshop is aimed at the young the trousers would be super skinny. However they have sold out of Marthas for shorties.

suburbandweller · 18/09/2012 14:36

I'm size 6-8 and 5'3" and rather than buying petites, I just get all my jeans/trousers taken up by my local drycleaner - most of them offer an alteration service. It costs less than £20 and means you have a much wider choice instead of only looking at mostly dismal petite ranges. I agree with other posters above though that internet shopping is difficult for jeans unless you know exactly what fit you are in each brand or are prepared to buy lots and send some back

If you go for bootcut you will need to get the correct length otherwise the wont look right when taken up.

I got some new look jeans for £10. The material is thin, but I quite like that for the spring and you can't go wrong at that price.....

I also have a few pairs from uniqlo which the alter for free.

I really think you need to try on loads until you find some you like.

awaywego1 · 19/02/2013 10:58

I'm a shorty too and do like topshop jeans but have also done the online thing with asos and bought loads of pairs to try on at home and then sent them back-it's free delivery and returns and easier than going to a shop.
