Oh lord I don't know much about this colour thing but is that all the colours you are allowed? Where are the 'base' colours? Grey/navy/black? I suppose brown could be a base but without more muted tones how does all that go together?
Could you start with a few scarves in the right colours to put with existing clothes coral, or this one?

BonnyDay · 15/09/2012 11:19

dont listen to the names of the colours imo. im a summer so suit soft colours tht tone rather than contrast, thats what i keep in head

cardoon · 15/09/2012 11:27

No no, lots of colours, lots, 36 in your palette but many, many more that blend with your particular palette.......my trouble is deciding if something blends or not

Base colours - chocolate, beige, dove grey, bright navy, Oxford blue

Clueless as to how it all goes together ...

Will go scarf shopping today

You're the same as me! My consultant described me as a paintbox spring, but sounds like the same 100% and 75% colours.

What I found useful is remembering 'warm, bright, clear' when looking at things in shops or whatever. Also when held next to my colour wallet, does it tone in, even if it doesn't match a colour exactly.

I bought tops initially then gradually replaced other stuff.

I ditched all my black instantly after seeing exactly what it was doing to me, I couldn't put it back on.

I wear mostly navy (as bright a navy as possible) as a base, with some chocolate brown as well, trousers/skirts etc.

I wear a lot of turquoise colours, and a lot of the coral pinks.

BonnyDay · 15/09/2012 11:28

flowery gives good advice - dont stick to exact colours - if they tone that is ok.
i di bin black in the day near my face but love it at night with slap

cardoon · 15/09/2012 11:31

Haha, missed out the Tan there in my basic neutrals! Grin

BedHog · 15/09/2012 11:32

I'm a 'Honeyed Spring' so I guess that's similar to you. Basically the colour that looks best on me is a kind of diarrhoea brown Hmm. So I ignore that, obviously, and go for stuff that is kind of muted, natural colours. Imagine a spring meadow - sage greens, golden yellow, orangey reds. I've also started wearing nicer shades of brown (coffee, chocolate etc). Sea colours can work well too - aquas, ultramarine etc. I still wear a lot of black too though!

Don't worry too much about it though. You'll know if something looks terrible on you (lilac in my case) and rules are meant to be broken!! Smile

EdMcDunnough · 15/09/2012 11:33

Crikey.

Well you can go along with it or you can just wear what you feel good in...whatever colour it is.

I'd never let someone else tell me what I had to wear, especially if I didn't like it, or feel comfortable with it - I have a fair idea of what colours suit me already, that's what mirrors are for!

Liking the sound of the browns and ambers and greens though...most people look alright in these as they are kind of neutral, natural colours.

It's stuff like bright pink or yellow that hardly anyone can get away with, so just avoid those. And avoid salmon. obviously Smile

cardoon · 15/09/2012 11:36

Yes, but what if you are so stupid unsure as to know if something tones enough?

I do realise I'm being idiotic....but I need to get it right having spent the money or DH will kill me

OP posts:
EdMcDunnough · 15/09/2012 11:40

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound so dismissive or patronising.

I just felt sorry that you were feeling so unsure about it all,

actually most of the colours sound really nice and workable - most things I wear are greens and browns and so on. It won't be too hard I'm sure.

Is there anything specific you would like us to find?

cardoon · 15/09/2012 11:47

My mantra is - CLEAR, BRIGHT, WARM, LIGHT

I seem to have it in my head that I have to wear all those colours.....TOGETHER! Grin

OP posts:
dreamingofsun · 15/09/2012 11:58

you sound the same colouring as me - hence my interest in reading thread. surely you only need to really worry about stuff near your face - ie tops? trousers/skirts are so far away i can't see they make much difference. ok so you might not like coral on the peg but try it on and see if it looks nice.

maybe just find 1 or 2 of the suggested colours as a start? aqua (ie bright, light blue is probably fairly easy?)

what is kerry green?

flowery · 15/09/2012 11:58

I find it fantastic because 'scary' colours that I wouldn't have touched I now wear because I've realised they look great on me. Like really bright pink, as long as its warm rather than cool in tone, looks great. Bright red as well.

cardoon · 15/09/2012 12:10

I worry about everything dos Grin

OP posts:
cardoon · 15/09/2012 12:15

See, I like 'scary' colours like bright pink/red etc....it's the scary colours like tan/salmon/violet that are picked out as being some of my best colours that really terrify me!

OP posts:
Hopefully · 15/09/2012 12:37

cardoon can you buy a scarf or something in one of the scary colours and just see how you go? You don't need to revamp your entire wardrobe in one fell swoop.

I also suggest to my clients that they send me links of things they love if they are panicking. Obviously monitors vary, but you can usually get an idea whether something's in the right ballpark.

As well as remembering the 'spring' words it's also sometimes easier to ask yourself if it's cool/muddy/dull/dark (I.e the wrong things for you). If it's none of those, it's probably right.

Silibilimili · 15/09/2012 13:00

What if you get a tan? Do your colours change? Just wondering.

cardoon · 15/09/2012 13:34

I'm quite tanned at the moment and worry if i wore a tan scarf I'd just look like I had goitre or a wrinkly neck just as I look naked from the waist down when i wear my tan skinnies Grin

I am a spring. My HoC consultant said not to stress about clearing out my wardrobe (although actually I had instinctively been drawn to spring colours so it was not too bad).

My HoC said I should expect to take 2 years to get my wardrobe right. Ie to gradually replace things as they wear out with colours from my spring palate. I think that advice is spot on. Also as a general rule the shops are colour appropriate for each season. Ie it's easiest to get spring colours in the spring!! That said I have still managed to get lots of lovely things for A/W. If you are on pinterest come and have a look at my boards- my name is the same as on MN.

Honestly don't panic. All HoC does is tell you what colours look fabulous on you. So why wouldn't you want to wear colours that make you look wonderful?!!!!! Good luck

cardoon · 15/09/2012 15:57

Thanks Antspants, your words are very soothing and you have some lovely, stylish stuff on pinterest - I am following you ( mollie collie) Grin

I think I'll dip my toe in the water with scarves and jewelry first. Do you love the arrow head and did you buy any of the turquoise stuff from etsy?

OP posts:
AntPants1 · 15/09/2012 16:36

The Arrow head necklace is lovely. Wear it loads. Have not taken the plunge with the turquoise necklace yet. Fancy the multi stone one from esty. If you look at my style board you will see a pin with a nude/ blush blouse and a turquoise necklace. I really want to recreate that look.

cardoon · 16/09/2012 15:48

Did you have to pay much import tax to pay on the arrow head Antspants?
Love the nude colours - perhaps I should concentrate on that more as there is not much clear, light ,bright etc. in the shops atm.
