So where are they then? I like the traditional style, ie, trying to veer away from Peppa, Hello Kitty, etc, but they're all quite pricey?!
TIA

Just buy cheap cotton dresses. Cotton "nighties" are hard to find because of an antiquated law that nighties should be fire resistant, even though pyjamas don't need to be.

unsureunderneath · 14/09/2012 19:43

Watching as I also want to know the answer!

YoungJoseph · 14/09/2012 19:47

I suppose you've tried the usual high street suspects? I bought dd one from M and S last year for under a tenner iirc. I was v. surprised to see it for sale as cotton nighties for girls are hard to find, tend to be Victorian looking an are v. expensive.

turkeyboots · 14/09/2012 19:47

I put DD (5y) in t shirts for 11 year olds, they are long enough and cheap. Like you couldn't find cheap cotton nighties and the polyester ones irritate DDs ezema.

YoungJoseph · 14/09/2012 19:54

Laura Ashley seem to have them, but they are cotton jersey, any good?

MadameBabawic · 14/09/2012 20:01

I was given some Petit Bateau ones for DD1, the cotton is lovely and DD2 is now using them, I saw some nice plain-ish ones in h&m last week so def. cheaper but not bad !

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 15/09/2012 00:07

I keep an eye on the sales at

White company
Feather and black - like this for £9 reduced from £23
Half pint chic

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 21/09/2012 22:34

Check half pint chic - currently running a nightwear sale here

cerealqueen · 21/09/2012 23:49

I agree, M&S are the worst culprits with their nasty polyester nightdresses which bobble after one wear (didn't see label till after washed and worn and saw what they were made of)

Brandnewbrighttomorrow fab link, thanks!!!!!!!!!

lurkingaround · 22/09/2012 10:19

You know when you mentioned nighties needing to be fire resistant, and PJs not? Is polyester fire resistant?

Agree, m&s are awful for girls' nighties. Will check half pint link.

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 22/09/2012 15:25

I've ordered the stripy jersey pj's for all three of mine - haven't seen any I like as much in years. Some of the nightdresses are gorgeous but too small for my eldest Sad

Startailoforangeandgold · 22/09/2012 16:00

Long T-shirts and cheap summer dresses are a good alternative.

OhCobblers · 22/09/2012 16:35

Thanks so much for great ideas and links! Much nicer than anything I've seen!

OhCobblers · 22/09/2012 17:32

Thanks glib but they're polyester or a mix of it!

Next time you are on holiday in France you can find nice ones in Monoprix, the French supermarket. They aren't super-cheap but they are very tasteful.

lurkingaround · 01/10/2012 18:13

Got the nighties from half pint chic. Prompt efficient delivery. Not cheap but that's very much reflected in the quality. Very lovely. Excellent heavy cotton, feel lovely, well finished, generous sizing, and pretty. They should last a good while. Vastly superior than any other nightwear I've ever bought for DCs.
Thanks for the link!

Brandnewbrighttomorrow · 01/10/2012 22:31

My three insist on wearing their matching pj's from half pint chic, despite the fact that they are a size too big for all of them, even going so far as getting their pals dressed up in pj's too for a mid afternoon pyjama party this afternoon Grin

So glad you've found some gorgeous nighties lurking, I was most disappointed they didn't have any in my eldest girl's size and my youngest is too little for nighties yet - should have stocked up for her Envy

LittlePJS · 05/10/2012 00:30

Have a look at this website www.littlepjs.co.uk we have some lovely girls nighties and pyjamas and also boys pyjamas.
Nighties have to be fire retarded as they are seen as a higher risk of catching on fire with being floaty - I agree that this does seem strange when you can have pyjamas made from the same fabric that dont have to be !

HappySunflower · 05/10/2012 00:38

Lovely, LittlePJ's but a bit pricey!

lucylou99 · 04/01/2013 19:56

powell craft have the most popular pure cotton nightdresses which are traditional english.Yes a bit pricey but resell well on ebay due to popular demand so you get nearly half the money back-the same goes for the white company.I resold one of my daughters nightdresses for £10.00!
