That's it really. Any ideas? They're for my 16 year old's room.

out2lunch · 13/09/2012 23:54

debenhams used to be good

Mabelface · 14/09/2012 00:26

Argos have loads slashed right down in price atm.

IvanaNap · 14/09/2012 00:33

Apparently ikea now do a curtain making service as part of their fabric/material department, not sure how it prices up though.

skandi1 · 14/09/2012 00:36

Natural curtain co. I have a lot of windows (23 to be exact). And I had my heart set on thermally lined silk curtains and roman blinds. John Lewis wanted more than £12,000. Natural curtain co cost £5000 for the same thing. I did also get a 15% discount which i had from signing up to their news letter. And they are beautiful.
I did have to send one pair back because there had been a problem with the some of the hooks going through the pleat and the fabric but they were replace without a quibble.
I have heard a few people on MN have been unimpressed with them but for me it worked out ok and obviously there was no way DH would let me spend £12k on curtains.

jumpingjackamo · 14/09/2012 01:37

Ok, I have to say this...

£5,000 on curtains!!!!!!!!!! Holy Moly I have been living under a very cheaply decorated rock Shock

That really is a lot of windows though.

Sorry, I had to say that, I couldn't keep it in Blush

JazzyComposition · 14/09/2012 06:52

My thoughts precisely jumping, and we've just purchased a house so will also be needing curtains...Shock

ggirl · 14/09/2012 07:32

I got some nice ones from Next for ds' room , plain red lined. Cost me £25 I think.

mewkins · 14/09/2012 09:38

Dunelm mill is good - ready mades and also a tailor made service. We got dd some lovely blackout nursery curtains reduced from about 60 to 12 quid from there - great reductions on end of ranges

iseenodust · 14/09/2012 09:43

Second Dunelm for breadth of choice. We have some floor length tailor made from there and the price was fantastic.

SunWukong · 14/09/2012 09:48

Why not just go on yell.com and look up small local places in your area, we used to have a lovely curtain makers in Acton far better then high street shops.

jumpingjackamo · 14/09/2012 13:05

I also like Dunelm Mill but Sun has a good point too.

There is a market stall/ small shop my mum goes to for nets that does a massive range of soft furnishings and curtains for a fraction of the usual price. I am planning to venture there myself soon to get some winter curtains.

LettyAshton · 14/09/2012 13:11

I got some curtains and poles from Terry's Fabrics (online) and was very pleased with quality and service - and price (and went through Quidco for extra off).

AWomanCalledHorse · 14/09/2012 13:15

Got some decent lined ones in B&Q a few years back, full length pair in hessian & suede for £60.

We've got a great independent curtain shop nearby so I second Sun's suggestion of Yell.

Be wary of using online blind companies.
I bought 4 roman blinds & was relatively pleased with the results, they cost £500, rather than £1500 from John Lewis.
I ordered another set for the same sort of price (£500) and they were terrible. They were crooked, they didn't actually going up & down & there were holes in the fabric where they had been stitched to the batons. It's bad enough that it was a poor delivery, but their customer service turned it into a nightmare. Despite it looking like they were a UK based company online, they are clearly manufactured abroad. No-one will speak to you on the phone & they kept refusing to confirm that I would get a refund if I sent them back & they agreed that they were faulty. Very slippery to deal with. i only managed to get a refund after sending (draft) legal paprwork for the small claims court.
So, once I'd got my refund I ordered some blinds from John Lewis & the difference in quality is amazing. I now wish I'd just waited until I had enough £££s to get them all done by John Lewis. I feel like I've wasted £500 on the 1st set which I'm now not happy with.

JazzyComposition · 17/09/2012 06:45

I have used this website in the past:www.247curtains.co.uk/
The curtains were great and the price well, about a quarter of what JL quoted me. The curtains are still going strong.

I have recently purchased a house and was thinking of using them again. The problem for me is that you have to select one of their fabrics and apart from the 'Lulu Stripe' selection, there isn't a single one I like...

higgle · 17/09/2012 09:46

Next lied "twill" curtains are quite elegant and very cheap - I have 3 sets in my house, two floor length in a taupish sort of colour and some off white ones in another room. They look very good quality and I livened up the effect with some ornate rope tie backs.
